In regards to the titan's lines, how do the wall titans and the mule titan fit in. Is it just that the 'main' 9 (now 8) are the most powerful, and the rest are just people who took the serum. It would make sense, as Bertholt is a fair bit bigger then the wall, and so the wall titans. Does this mean that anyone can become a titan, and the titans of BRA, M(Y), E, Z and previously the first king line are simply the most powerful of each type, like a machine gun to a pistol.

I just finished the manga after watching the anime. Why does SnK get a bad rap? The anime is probably a little less realist and a little more edgy than the manga but not by very much. I found it pretty enjoyable and aside from a little plot armour there weren't too many things that made me think 'this is dumb as fuck'. A notable exception was Eren rescuing Misaka when they were 9, but that has almost no bearing on the story so I haven't dwelt on it too much.

So why is it that SnK gets so much hate? Is it the gore and violence? Because plenty of other series have gratuitous violence. Is it the edge? Given the setting I feel it's kept at a pretty respectable level. Some pieces of the plot are a little far fetched but they're still well within the limits of my disbelief, nor are there all that many asspulls. I was expecting some pretty shounen-tier shit when I started SnK, but I've been pleasantly surprised with a story that has fallible characters and real consequences.

It must be the popularity then. I cannot think of any other reason it would garner so much ire.

The titans that comprise the Eldian refugee colony's "walls" that the Mare are shitting their pants over potentially being activated and used to obliterate them by the Coordinate are extremely old. Like, hundreds if not thousands of years old, yet they can be "awoken" at any time. Thus, titans are, effectively, immortal/unaffected by aging.

This is borne out by the fact that Ymir is (at least) 70-something years old, having not aged a day during her time as a mindless titan.

It's not only possible, but likely, that Ymir Fritz and the Ymir we know are literally the exact same person. She probably didn't spend a mere 60 years that way, but over 1700. She "died for the happiness of a great many people"- did she impose her own mindless fate upon herself somehow out of guilt over the Eldian oppression of the Mare or did they capture her at the conclusion of the uprising and do that to her?

Long ago, a woman named Ymir Fritz (it is not certain whether this is the first king, our Ymir, or someone else entirely) made a deal with the devil. From this deal, Titans were created and they conquered the land in the name of Ymir’s people. They formed a nation known as Elodia, and they ruled mercilessly.
Of the titans, there were 9 “main” ones. These are assumed to be the titan shifters. The coordinate/the first king is the most powerful of these 9.
Insurgents comprised of the persecuted races of Elodia (everyone but Ymir’s people) rose up and started a revolution, in which they stole 7 of the 9 shifters. They backed the Elodian government into a corner. This corner was an island called Paradi, and often referred to as Paradise. It is here where the Coordinate erected the 3 walls to protect the Elodian people. The revolutionaries instituted a new nation known as Mare.
The Elodians (Ymir’s people) who remained in Mare were persecuted. There are a LOT of parallels to Nazi Germany and the Jews. An Elodian named Grisha Jaeger (Eren’s dad), after his sister was taken from his family by police, decided to join a revolution of Elodians who wanted to overthrow the government. In this revolution he met his wife, Donna Fritz, who had royal blood.
Their son, Zeke (He later becomes The Beast Titan), was supposed to join the military and bring them information. However, at the tender age of seven, he turned in his parents and the rest of the revolution to the police.
Grisha and the revolutionaries were then sent to Paradise, outside the walls, where they were turned into Titans and forced to siege the Elodian people they share a lineage with.
Many of these revolutionaries are implied to be many of the titans that invaded Trost, as can be seen in pic related

If you're asking for a general idea of where she is from. Outside the walls seems to be the most likely possibility. She knows about who the true enemy is. Something curious to note is that we never see Ymir near titans from outside the walls. The only titans we ever see her get up close to are the ones from Connie's village. Can't help but wonder if that was intentional on Isayama's part and just how many titans outside the walls would show the same kind of reverence to Ymir that the Ilse titan did. Also, she is familiar with herring, an ocean fish.
Everything we know about her so far points to her being from a group beyond the walls. Could have been RBA's group, could be another group entirely.
