Hibike discussion for concert band bros.
Yuri / het baiters fuck off
What instrument do / did you play?
Clarinet reporting in.
Are all japanese bands this hardcore.
My highschool band was cheering when we got 2nd place at the state competition.
The episode looked bad by their standards because most of KyoAni was working on Koe no Katachi during production.
Kumiko's voice I don't really know how to explain. She doesn't have a consistent seiyuu I guess
Are these supposed to be the swimsuits in the next episode?
someone post a webm of drummer-chan in this scene
So are the two bitches on the right gonna be completely useless again?
Was anyone else triggered that the Tuba player didn't finish the Bb scale here?
Kumiko sounds the same to me. She's always had a wide range. When she's calm or annoyed she speaks in a low pitch, when she's happy or agitated she speaks in a high pitch. This happened in S1 too.
When I watched S1's OVA I also thought she sounded weird but that was just because it had been so long since I had last heard her. When I rewatched some episodes and then heard her in the OVA again, she sounded normal. This seems to be the case as well.
Another bit at the end
What kind of porn would he watch?
Does KyoAni have a fetish for series with dead wives?
This show has a lot of cute background girls
Oboes can only be ear piercingly terrible or amazing soul movingly beautiful. There is no inbetween, I've witnessed the sudden transition from the former to the latter practically overnight.
For those who are new to Euphonium and want to experience its shitpost culture in all its glory, here's the adolescence edition
The general shitpost edition (must be kept alive at any cost d-e-s-u)
The ribbon makes drama edition
And the band bros edition
Also, for those who aren't new but want to know about the difference in voice acting
>If people are wondering why Kumiko sounds so different this is an interesting interview about season 2
>>Ishihara: Kumiko has changed from season 1; she becomes a fiery girl herself.
>>Yamada: Kumiko moves three-dimensionally in season 2.
>>Ishihara: She was passive in season 1 and she’s now active in season 2.
>Kumiko's character is a lot more serious this time around and Reina's voice on the otherhand is much gentler
Talent Power Rankings
>Amping up the yuri in the first episode
yeah this is totally a couple that cares about guys
>tfw hetflags blown so far out they can't even respond properly
YURI or RIOT!
Is shuichi's bro the one known as pussy destroyer in the club
First I was a hetfag, but then I saw that yuri was winning, so now I was always a yurifag in my heart.
Unless KyoAni backtracks and shows Shuichi winning. Then I'm back to the hetfag-team.
Reina is a strong NTRwoman
The spineless beta fuckboi childhood friend deserves to lose his grumpy waifu
also Asuka continues to be professional as fuck. If that girl wants to fangirl for the band then she can do it OUTSIDE of the band. A weak link ran away and now she wants back in because the band got their shit together? Nah, fuck right off, don't need yas.
It's pretty funny that she acts like she knows all when she's oblivious to some dude being thirsty for her
All this band nostalgia.
Who /sectionleader/ here?It really hurts me that we'll never see them march again. The "Hibikes watch DCS" when?
Anyways, Haruka is becoming a wallflower again. And the exposition of her character was so nice in S1, too.
Do it KyoAni, lewd the fluff
I bought a 1000 dollar clarinet, so I'm obligated to pull it out once in a while.
I admit clarinet doesn't sound the best by itself, but it can kick ass as the lead instrument in the right band.
Reminder that every single boy made it into the A team.
Reminder that Hibike s2 is an anime that surpasses Evangelion
Give me your honest opinion about Ribbon
I genuinely hate her, think she is shortsighted and stupid, and hope she cries yet again this season.
Jesus fuck, how autistic can someone get?
Is the oboe really that terrifying of an instrument? And do all oboe players have autism?
Fucking this. Groaned loud enough to get my roommates to turn towards me.
>Kumiko's relaxed personality now that's comfortable around Reina
Jesus christ she's so damn charming it's ridiculous
One of the songs is titled Hibike! Euphonium.
This got me hard
I fucking love namedrops
genuinely the worst part of the entire episode
Band drama or not, what's so original about parents not allowing school kids to do some shit? It's been done a gazillion times before in a ton of things including not-anime stuff.
Baisically tells Seika > Kitauji, and Yamakan as conductor > Taki Sensei
He pitched an anime about a wind band to KyoAni years ago.
He later published it as a LN after kyoani told him to fuck off.
Mostly for brass instruments, but some appartments or living situations make it difficult to practice for real. Woodwind players don't seem to have this problem because their instruments have smaller soundcocks.
I noticed this too
When the 4 of them are together it didn't really feel like they were all friends. Kumiko would speak to Katou & Midori, and then she would speak to Reina. The interactions between the other two and Reina basically amounted to half-hearted conversation making simply because they acknowledged that Reina was friends with Kumiko. When the two were on the train alone together, that's when their closeness really shined through as they chattered and laughed and teased, which they didn't even hint at in front of the others. Reminded me of some of my high school friendships to be honest. It's a nice touch
Was nice to see that Reina was paying attention when they were hanging out though, and picked up on some things like the three-second rule, something she never would have joked about previously. I'm really excited to see her develop as a part of this little group
Goto is even more relevant than him at this point.
Kumiko doesnt have friends. He real personality is her at home, and her speaking out her thoughs loudly occasionaly.
It was stated and clear already in S1 she is indifferent and pretending to be friendly and "cool".
Surely we can do better than that
>barely showing him
Come on. Half of the fun of watching him conduct is actually seeing him conduct
>she is indifferent and pretending to be friendly and "cool"
Well yes, that much was made painfully apparent in the classroom scene with ribbon and Reina and also in the comments that this guy made towards the whole band. It's a problem with all of them
It is possible though to have friends, talk with them, and enjoy their company despite not being completely true to yourself when you're around them. Which is what Kumiko does with pretty much everyone aside from Reina
He's probably banging the other tenor sax girl while they're alone together during sectionals.
flaccid, spineless noodles for a flaccid, spineless man
I love how on one side you have Dudamel and then you have this archwizard who always looks like he's maintaining the somatic components to a mass mind control spell on the whole orchestra.
I miss when his conductor hair was crazier though.
>MoP aren't even owned by the workers
Read a book libtard
who /inspiredtotrymusicwriting/ by the euphos here
>12 hours since i watched the episode
That's fucking pathetic.
>not using pen and paper, MuseScore or Sibelius
Pick one you stupid retard
Surprised someone put that one together, that summary has some minor mistakes in that I'm done particularly happy with but I never got around to fixing them. And now we have a season 2 so I kind if think that its pointless to do.
So after watching episode 1 to see how the pacing was, and this scene at the start, I am pretty sure Kyoani is adapting both volumes 2 and 3 since
Kumiko reading the notebook is the very last scene in the 3rd novel
The jumps in dates are pretty extreme with episodes 1 and 2 but the 2nd novel starts off pretty slow until the middle part.
The 2nd novel really only has 3 chapters
(Nozomi comes back, Firework date, Pool)
(longest and best part, has everything)
(Ribbons fixes everything, Kansai Tournament
So episode 2 finishes the pool episode and jumps a 1/3 into band camp. And unless Kyoani wants to spend like 4 episodes on a 3 day 2 night event, I think they can wrap up the 2nd novel by episode 6 or so leaving 7-13 for the 3rd novel. They probably wont make any full/largely original episodes this time around which'll save lots of time. Season 1 had at least 4 of those (Episode 1-2, Hazukis episode, Aoi's episode, Kumikos episode etc).
Or Kyoani can throw me off completely and start animating stuff about Azusa and her school since they run parallel to Hibike.
It's very much writing music. It isn't, however, playing it. Unless you play your MIDI with a controller, which some tend to do. In which case, you're writing and playing. Get with the times, gramps.
Not that anon, but, my own two cents: As someone who writes music and has an academic background in music, I think your definition of "writing music" is needlessly restrictive and pedantic if that's the case.
There's still another firework scene in band camp. Its probably my favorite scene in the 2nd novel because its when
Hashimoto accidentally tells Kumiko about Taki sensei's wife. It'll probably make me cry again.
It's like trying to write a novel in a language you can't even speak.
He should try reading some book on music theory first.
if Nozomi were to join now she'd be better than the current first chair for sure. Nozomi is on the list of people Asuka recognizes for their talent which there arent that many of. MIzore is obviously on that list but I cant really think of the others right now, I forget if she recognizes Reina or not despite it being obvious.
Of course Nozomi promised to join Team Monaka because it'd cause audition drama again if she kicks the first chair out.
>this much projection
Asshurt """"musician""" can't handle the truth so he resorts to projecting his insecurities onto others.
You are the only one flinging shit. You are the one trying to compare dicks. You are the one who is upset.
I'll bite. Why don't you considering programming MIDI to be music writing?
Directionless as it may be, it started in d natural minor and he just moved around from chord to chord from there. Out of scale a few times but that's okay. So he does seem to know some music theory.
I was wondering what she can possibly do even if she had join again. Having her join again would just cause unnecessary drama; Asuka was right to decline her.
I wonder in her current state if Asuka is willing to wade through all the bullshit and allow Nozomi to take a chair just to have a shot at winning the nations.
>hurr I'll bite xdDddxD
>this fucking stupid
>what is literally anything regarding orchestration
Eat shit, retard.
Also interested in the shitflinging anon's logic here. I hope it's more than just "it's art if I'm scrawling muh arcane symbols on staves but not if I'm using a digital program with a more accessible interface"
No dude don't you get it? I could literally sit my ass on the keyboard and roll around and call it a "mystic progression of augmented suspended minors" and the noise I produce will qualify as music.
Get with the times gramps.
I played Clarinet first then switched to trumpet.
thats another reason why I think they'll cover the 3rd volume
Mamiko's story concludes in the 3rd volume but they're laying it on heavy in the 2nd season already. It's actually a really nice story arc, I think it'll probably hit home for a lot of people
Mamiko drops out of college due to the pressure and ends up being a hikkiNEET for a few weeks until Kumiko and her finally bury the hatchet.
that is true that there's no positive reason for bring back Nozomi, Asuka kind of straight up said that. And the characters are all pretty divided on it. Reinas on Asukas "side", Natsuki is on Nozomi's side etc.
He has nothing to say it seems.
It might. To even understand major and minor chords, you need to have studied some music theory. I suppose he could have sat there for hours until he created some harmony. But it looks like he wrote d minor and moved it up and down, then switched his tonics to get major and minor chords. Agin, this could all be random but I'll err on the side of him knowing the basics.
Exactly dude you get it! I could also just fart right into the mic and call that music!
Who cares about centuries of structure and tradition build up by countless men researching it, we could just call anything music as we like.
I can't form a counter argument to petulant, inarticulate and substance-devoid rambling, anon. Luckily, you chose to almost make a statement here, so:
'what makes actual "written music" music' has been confined to what tools we have available to us.
Not to mention that performance and composition can exist completely independent of one another. I can write a fully-orchestrated symphony complete with the instrumentation of The Planets, but if no one physically plays it on the right tools, that somehow invalidates all of the musical choices I made, the intuition I applied writing it and the artistic intent I had while working on it? You are aware not everyone has connections to an ensemble of musicians that is ready, willing and able to perform their music.
Why are you so triggered by my music anon? What's wrong with literally recording sounds of me munching on the shit somebody I paid to take and calling that music? It's art dude lmao
Except that Holst's intent in writing Planets was to have somebody play it. The fact that your "music" can be "played" the same way over and over again without any variation and room for improvisation on a sequencer makes it noise, not music.
>this fucking stupid
>obviously never picked up an instrument before
>still trying to sound smart
Hopefully you know that no one is convinced other than you and your mommy.
No, the difference is what you wrote was never intended for human to play to begin with, who looks at a sequencer interface and go "yeah I can play this"?
What you're doing is "producing", not writing music.
And in both of those cases, you're applying the musical concepts of harmony, counterpoint, texture and orchestration, structure and compositional form to producing an organized sequence of pitches or sonic events. I think that is a lot more fitting a qualifier for whether or not something is "music" than simply whether or not you physically wrote it on staff paper.
>spoiling a slice of life
They all go to school and partake in the general hardships and victories associated with school. Oh I failed this test but oh my god you did so good I'm jealous!!
There is some romantic baiting, but nothing comes of it.
There is a musical event in which most of the melodrama occurs and brings the cast closer.
This shit is so transparent it hurts seeing people watch it for anything other than the yuri.
>texture and orchestration
If you think these are included in computer simulated sequencers then you truly are beyond fucking stupid.
>b-but muh synth!
>MFW she rejects Reina in the finale and does a complete 180 like Kumamiko in the finale
Kill yourself. I'm not even mad, I'm just shaking my head that you actually believe you're writing music.
Unless I'm misquoting you, and in that case, it's good to say I didn't read your whole post. In fact, I stopped after the first sentence. Upon skimming through it, I see you've posted a youtube link. I'm not opening that. Fuck you, you're retarded.
Before I respond to your argument, I'm just happy that you're at least not arguing against it being music.
What if he wrote sheet music and then just translated the notes to MIDI for a DAW to read? Or vice-versa? It's the same thing, anon. Simply in different forms. Additionally, what if he programmed a synthesizer patch, and then played some pre-written notes that he wrote on a MIDI controller like one of these ( http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music-production/midi-controllers/ ), and recorded it to audio? Is that not written music?
>still can't detect the sarcasm oozing out of each post he replied to
Not even John Cage would admit sounds of eating shit as music. In fact John Cage would qualify the trash that anon wrote as noise, not music.
Now that I've explicitly told you what the intention of those posts' are, you can stop having your autistic fits now.
Shit, sorry. I forgot there was no such thing as professionally-recorded sample libraries of real instruments that, while not ideal, can help people learn fundamental concepts in orchestration and can give composers a vehicle to convey the intent of their music without hiring a professional orchestra to record it. I'm really an idiot.
I did not like ED at all and I can't be the only one.
>tfw I read Novelanon's spoilers at the end of S1, eventually forgot the key events that happened, went through these S2 threads, and started remembering the spoilers again
Yes you really are, because you don't understand the difference between "sounds produced when learning" and "actual music". This is truly a new low in the history of grasping at straws.
Also if you think professionally recorded soundbites can add nearly as much color to an actual live performance you seriously need to consider having your IQ checked. You might be clinically retarded.
But you didn't, and still haven't.
>"I'm just shaking my head that you actually believe you're writing music."
>d-dude I totally knew you were being sarcastic haha
The autism must run in your family.
>you know those guys who make millions of dollars making music?
>and how they write a sketch in Pro Tools and then have an orchestra play it, rather than writing sheets?
>NOT ACTUALLY WRITTEN
lol you're a cute little anon
Remember, it wasn't written, it was just played.
I literally graduated uni with a degree in music, butthurt anon. And again, if the fact that it's being played by a sample library rather than trained (expensive) musicians is more important a criterion than the musical choices and intuition behind the composition, then I disagree. You're sacrificing the entire set of skills one develops writing music for the sake of defining it as "thing that a person does on a stage" which I think is completely idiotic.
>dude if they make bank they must be good
>he thinks I'm against composing programs in general even though I've always been only against sequencers
>setting up strawmen this desperately
quickly, Kumiko is angry, how do you calm her down?
>I literally graduated uni with a degree in music,
Irrelevant. If you claim to have proven the Goldbach conjecture and you back it up with "I have a degree in math" no one would give a shit.
>if the fact that it's being played by a sample library rather than trained (expensive) musicians is more important a criterion than the musical choices and intuition behind the composition, then I disagree
The INTENTION for trained musicians to play qualifies whether a piece is music or isn't. Any shit produced on a sequencer (which is what that original anon did) does NOT satisfy this criterion.
>still setting up strawmen
You're cute, but nothing that you've said even approached my point. You're framing this from the part of the musician playing the music, I'm framing this from the part of the one writing it, applying the same concepts and thought they'd apply to writing for actual musicians, but lacking the physical resources to have the work realized.
On the quality of soundbites vs. live musicians, I don't know what to say. That's not even a semi-logical interpretation of anything I said in my post. So.. I agree? You sure ground that argument I didn't make into dust.
Depends, is the music composed with the appropriate accommodations for improvisation and the intention for it to be played by professionally trained musicians? If so then it's music.
>tradition isn't practical
>it's survived for nearly 2 millennia but it's totally not practical guys!!!
Just give up, he's been posting nonsense for a while now.
Wow, it must have taken the entire team to shift that goalpost, anon-chan.
They kill pretty much any expressiveness music has, it's fine if you make straight up electronic music, but orchestral music built on sample packs pretty much always sound terrible.
You're really trying your hardest to misunderstand every post you reply to. What's more practical for anon who wants to learn music? Get a DAW and start writing in the sequencer, or wait until he saves enough from his autism checks to buy a piano and a couple of books? Sequencers are an excellent LEARNING and sketching tools. And yes you are writing when you click notes on a sequencer.
Are you fucking stupid? I was never against him learning music, I was only against him calling whatever shit he posted music.
Shove that stupid holier-than-thou attitude up your ass.
Lmfao I can't believe this "debate" is still going on.
THIS >>148188133 is not writing music. This is far from writing music. If you've ever played music, you'd know that this isn't writing music. It's just common knowledge.
Irrelevant? The idiot accused me of never playing an instrument before when I have years of conservatory training in Western classical music.
And again, I think that being the sole criterion is pedantic and idiotic. Once again, you're prioritizing the tool over the intent behind the work. That logic allows 3 minutes and 44 seconds of uninterrupted silence to be qualified as music, while a MIDI mock up of a film score with the compositional prowess of John Williams is just some fuck shitting out 1s and 0s.
>waking up at 5am to go practice
Holy shit, fuck that.
>hurt look I can reference 4'33" (incorrectly)
Except john cage even explicitly stated that he's a noise artist, not a musician.
>hfw he gets BTFO by his own marginally relevant point
non-band fag here, when someone decides to play the bass drum, is it the only drum they can play or can they pretty much play any drum if they know the theory?
Yeah so much form your music degree, cuck. And notice how I listed two criteria for a piece to be qualified as music. Just because there's a score for 4'33 doesn't mean it IS music. It's literally impossible to improvise on silence.
so basically, if I write it on paper, it's beautiful true written music for the ages that touches souls, but if I take the same notes and concepts and click them into pro tools, it's fart noises or dicks being blended. got it.
its a recap of the first season with extended scenes for Rydeen and the finale concert. There's a short Mizore and Ribbon scene but its nothing you wont miss if you just watch the first episode
reminder that Reina does this every single morning
Look, man, I honestly think this guy is a retard, but if you're gonna mock him, at least mock his actual argument. The biggest issue I have with his opinions is that he keeps bringing up these criteria that are completely arbitrary and clearly based on his subjective tastes and treating them as set objective rules, but those have nothing to do with whether the music is written on paper or whatever.
Putting actual notes (not noises) in a succession is writing (or composing) music. Whether it is good quality/inspired/sounds good is absolutely irrelevant. I bet you're the same guy who screams that "LN ARE NOT LITERATURE THIS IS AN INSULT TO WRITERS LIKE ORWELL". LN are literature as well, albeit the bad kind. Just like there are bad composers and good composers in the world.
Is that your argument or are you parodying the troll's argument? I can't even tell anymore. In either case, when I'm writing music, on paper or in a DAW, I'm thinking about the same thing, applying the same concepts and using the same training and pool of skills.
Fuck, now it all makes sense.
And for the record, the "music" of John Cage's 4'33" was intended to consist of the background noise that occurs while the performer sits motionless. Coughs, background hums, shifting of jackets, noises from outside the auditorium. By it's very nature, it can never sound the same every time it's played.
does anyone know the name of the song thats playing at around 24:40? i know i've heard it somewhere
so wait can you change the valves while the air is still going through it with certain timings?
I have no interest in getting into the ideological clusterfuck of "what is art", but just to point out, that definition eliminates music for an ensemble of unpitched percussion instruments from being considered music.
>tfw never practiced after leaving band and forgot everything
This isn't music discussion. Some innocent anon shared that he's writing music in Fruity Loops and ticked off a sperg. And instead of ignoring said sperg, people feel the need to try reasoning with it. It is better than yuri bait though.
