Is fansubbing dead? The front page on nyaa is literally all HS and re-encodes of HS.

Fansubbing takes time, anon.

Yes.
>>
Yes it's dead.

We barely even get shitty groups slightly altering the HS subs and infecting them with memes anymore.
>>

How do we go from this?

https://fansubdb.com/wiki/Autumn_2016
To this?
>>
It's just a shit season.
>>
>>148160677
That's every season in the last 3 years. Shit.
>>
>>148160238
I don''t think OP is talking about fan-encodes but about fan-subs.
There is a difference.

>tfw 90% of seasonal anime are now completely translated
>tfw only a couple struggle getting people to sub them, but eventually manage
>tfw it's somehow a problem that we can watch almost the entire season
>>
>>148161075
There is one difference compared to a few years ago.
Encodes have worsened lately what with our only options being streamrips or downgrades of streamrips.
>>
>>148160034
Yes, and it's a good thing, fansubs are retarded garbage because sub groups were retarded.

I do not miss sub group drama, having to wait ages because the subbers felt the need to add stupid shit like karaoke, retarded translation notes and the overall ammeter quality that comes from a bunch of japanese 201 students trying to make sense of things
>>
>>148161140
>encodes have worsened
You don't like CR rips? Extract the subs and download raws. Problem solved.

Or the best option wait for BDs

It's shit when it's Funishit, if I'm not mistaken only their rips are hardsub, and their video quality is the worst.
>>
>>148161364
>Extract the subs and download raws.
But those are typically even worse than CR rips.
>>
>>148160076
And during that time, everybody had already watched the CR rips.
>>
>>148161468
>subbing a show CR picked up
Why even when there are always one or two shows without any subs? Fansubbing used to be so terrible when over five groups would compete by subbing the same show
>>
>>148160034
i miss fansubbing

anime discussion seemed better before shitty offical subs took over for some reason
>>
>>148160108
Would not do unless tables were screwed to the floor
>>
>>148161588
Anime just became mainstream because of Crunchy
>>
>>148161331
egotistical JAP201 students are the only sort of people willing to deal with a bunch of shut-ins and JAP101 students telling them their shitty translations suck while being completely wrong with the points they choose to attempt to critisize.

Fans killed fansubs, and I prefer it this way.
>>
>>148161140
If only I could back in time and tell Diaz and co. that we would be back to watching 8-bit encodes, and everyone who upgraded their CPU to watch anime would have wasted their money.
>>
>>148161832
>Upgrade CPU to watch anime
Wat
>>
>>148161617
The original guy in the image did get killed by his monitor.
>>
>>148161944
What? Not that guy, but it makes sense, since it grants more processing power for videos. It's not just GPUs, you know.
>>
>>148161832
>not replacing your aired copies with 10-bit BDrips
>but still with HS subs
>>
>>148161331
Except those Japanese 201 students are the ones subbing the anime still, they're just getting paid for it and/or graduated to 301 students.
>>
>>148160735
That's exactly what he's doing. First link shows the handfuls of groups subbing shows. Second link shows nothing but
>Crunchyroll
>>
>>148164682
>First link shows the handfuls of groups subbing shows.
No, the first link shows handfuls of groups with their own encodes and personal rewrites of the subs they got from Crunchyroll.
>>
I wish Netflix would hold more shows hostage so fansubs came back to life.
>>
>>148160034
Fansubbing has been dead for at least 3 years.
>>
Services like Crunchyroll, The Anime Network, Daisuke, even Hulu pick up about 95% of the shows that are worth watching each season.

And who wants to go through all the work of subbing episodes when they can just rip the subs from the streaming services to push out faster releases?
>>
>>148160034
>Is fansubbing dead?
There's no point in fansubbing for ungrateful anime consumers. Most of the consumers aren't even real anime fans. They merely consume anime as entertainment and openly mock fansubbers as autists or assholes looking for gratification.
>>
>>148161331
>>
>>148160238
Those 2013 ones are almost all HS with minor adjustments or different video encodes, nigger. Actual fansubbing (of new releases) was dying in the late 00s.
>>
>>148170387
No, the first few years of CR going legit was good for fansubbing. They were bad enough that there were still plenty of original tls (which were, in hindsight, just as bad).

The fansubbing scene was actually alive back then. Now the groups have shrunk so much and so few new people have joined that nobody even knows how to pick up the torch and continue. All the new 1-2 man groups are a few years behind in skill and technique.
>>
people sadly still defend cr and funi
>>
>>148170695
>tls
It wasn't real translations. It was mostly rewording of the existing translations.
>>
>>148170812
That too, but it didn't become as common until CR improved. There was a period when there were multiple original TLs for the popular shows and very few were completely untouched.
>>
>>148170941
Do you want to know how CR improved?
They hired all those fan-translators.
>>
nyaa is down, thefucking jews won fuck
>>
>>148170798
Nobody defends funi.
>>
>>148172593
Nyaa goes down about once every month.
>>
>>148170798

this can't be real
>>
>>148172652
hopefully my isp didn't block the connection from nyaa because I've never got error 521 from nyaa when it went down previously
>>

It's been that way for about 2 years now.

Makes sense when CR and Funi just subbed pretty much everything.
>>

fuk why doesn't this happen in the morning
>>
>>148172922
Yuri!!! on ice is faded out on the site

unless im dumb and it's located elsewhere
>>
>>148173105

Sure would suck to not be able to download your pirated anime any time you want.

This is where the internet is going now. We need a darknet with multiple layers of encryption.
>>
>>148173140
Click on the resolution instead of the name. It seems Nyaa is already up again though.
>>
Does horriblesubs not count as fansubbing or something? I never understood this, their about page literally states "We are a fansub group" at the very top.
>>
>>148173216
>We need a darknet with multiple layers of encryption.
with how elitist most of the at one point good parts of the internet has become itwould die fast since there would never be any new users, who is going to teach other how to enter that darknet?
>>
>>148160743
What is this from?
>>
>>148161832
>trying to make 10-bit the standard
>wasting money to watch 10-bit shit
>people did this to feel superior

Diaz was a fucking scumbag and a tool as is everyone who swallowed his cum from dick sucking.

Who the fuck would upgrade their system just to watch anime? If your shit can't handle anime you need a whole new rig or you're watching poorly optimized media, like everything Diaz did.
>>
>>148165996
Netflix is the savior /a/ needs
>>
>>148173757
They're just CR and other rips. They don't do the subbing.
>>
>>148173216
>Sure would suck to not be able to download your pirated anime any time you want.
What does that have to do with nyaa being down? I can still download my pirated anime from multiple other aggregators and the subbers' sites, not to mention trackerless torrenting.
>>
>>148173887
2008-ish midranged C2D is good enough for HI10p, even the ultra high bitrate bloated Coalgirls release. The only ones fucked by 10-bit shits are media set top box/smart TV/PS3.
>>
Most of what people want to watch gets licensed anyway these days. The series that fall through the cracks often (if not always) get fansubbers.
Licensed, fansubbed, I don't care, I just really hope we get Applimonsters subbed.
>>
>>148173759
Sure, just like madokami died, right?
>>
>>148174069

Not for long you won't.
>>
>>148174170
>small group that has at best an improved access to some content which you cant still get through regular means and which you can enter by applying through an invitation vs putting absolutely all content behind a wall and which to get pass it you need some amount of technical knowledge
it sure is the same ain't it?

the darknet that anon suggested is basically going full silkroad
>>
>>148174355
i fucking hate this brokent keyboardand the autocorrect

>can

>past
>>
>>148174300
If I had a penny for every time I heard that. And a nickel for every time I heard "this time's different!"

Seriously, how do you even propose they would shut down trackerless P2P methods?

>>148174355
Everyone found out about madokami because people put up step-by-step guides everywhere, anon. This supposed obstructive "elitism" you're talking about isn't actually an issue, because individuals getting explanations on /a/ isn't how knowledge actually spreads in a big way, it's through people talking to their friends or whatever off of /a/, and then through explanations that get posted in publicly available places, which is inevitably what would happen.
>>
>>148174470

ISP level blocking of unauthorized P2P.
>>
>>148174554
>unauthorized
So not a blacklist, but a fucking blanket ban with a white list? I somehow doubt this is actually going to happen any time soon.
>>
>>148174701

Have you not been reading the news lately?
>>
>>148174771
The news of literally nothing happening and /pol/ flipping out over it because they think that apparently freedom of speech completely disappears as soon as the US government isn't in charge? Yeah, that's been leaking onto /a/ a fair amount.
>>
>>148174355
You'd probably be surprised how effective an IRC registration requirement is. Almost every day does some idiot try and publicly fail to follow the step-by-step guide.
>>
>>148160034
Only an idiot would do the same work twice.
>>
Nyaa is working fine. Don't know what you guys are talking . Downloaded some episode of conan or whatever just to make sure.
>>
>>148177651
It's back up now
>>
>>148161548
>Fansubbing used to be so terrible when over five groups would compete by subbing the same show

Crunchyroll are a bunch of jews ruining anime

Bro, they're just localizing it for a Western audience. They want to help get the original meaning across for the viewers.
>>
>>148173216
>darknet
I tried this shit once
Downloaded Tor Browser and checked some "Super Secret Hidden Onion URL's" hoping for the internet of the old days

Needless to say it was a huge disappointment
The Darknet is filled with boring shit like "muh hitmen", "muh illegal drug trades" and other such garbage
>>
>>148179004
>>Having options is bad
Having a bunch of options for one show and none for four others is, yes.
>>
>>148174093
Most people watch anime on their laptops or on their phones

10 bit was a mistake
>>
>>148179531
But that was never the case
All of the popular shows got subbed just like nowadays except back then the translations were better
