It depends on age and the kind of abuse. I'm sure you've heard of older people 'grooming' children into doing what they want so that they do as they're told.
If they feel pressure to succeed no matter what (family, money, only thing they want in life) they might put up with it if they feel like there's no other option. They might even feel grateful they even have a chance to be coached.
