>misuses
While you aren't wrong the word with time lost it's meaning and became something else, like cuck
>>147652749
Cuck has turned into an all-encompassing nothingness. It's just a catch-all insult now, with a certain ideology attached to it.
I guess you can call it a change in meaning when nowadays even just thoughtless stupidity falls into the category. But I am opposed to accepting this new definition if it is actually intended as such and not just thoughtless stupidity on the part of the guy calling bait, because if everything is bait (and to be avoided) that isn't perfectly in line with what we consider sensible then we are dangerously close to killing ourselves intellectually.
>>147652877
The problem is newfags. They do what they're taught even if it's wrong and they don't correct it because that's what everyone else do and "relax bro is just a meme xD"
But at the same time we can't really blame them because we are the ones that taught them and if were not for then this place would have died year ago.
And with we a mean the larger userbase not literally everyone of course. This all came from something/someone

That implies that there are guidelines besides the rules that people are supposed to follow. It's every man's opinion of what the way that /a/ is supposed to be that is malleable and subjective. The Rules, Regulations, and Moderation shitshow threads are the perfect example of that. Consensus was a lot closer than it is now a few years back. For example, language was paid close attention to. ESLs weren't shunned, but if it was obvious you were just being too lazy ("y r u" instead of the full words for example) would get you into problems without fail, no matter which thread you were in.
It is a recent development and a consequence of the ";^)" movement that self moderation is in shambles. Ironic or not, the same posts that nowadays are getting ignored by the majority because you don't want to respond to bait would have been shitposted to hell.

>something about therapy is just like admitting defeat
This mindset is tragically common amongst people with depression and is one of the most common reasons it goes untreated for long periods of time.
Having dealt with a several year-long depression myself and studying it in college, the best way to go is to take an anti-depressant that helps control the symptoms and talk to a therapist, who can help you get to the root cause.
That's statistically the best course of action.
I despise the people who say it's "nothing" more than a chemical imbalance, because that's just their way of taking the blame off themselves, and putting it on something they can't control and so they won't even try to control or beat.
Depression is difficult to beat. It is cruel and insidious as it is your own mind trying to defeat itself at every turn while never allowing you to admit that you are ever the one who is wrong.
>>147674484
>Consensus was a lot closer than

>>147661007

>>147674484
>ESLs weren't shunned
Except they were already in 2009
The real problem /a/ is facing right now is that it is being sandwiched by two different groups. /pol/ on the one side, and "ironic" shitposters on the other.
4chan's original attitude was to leave your morals at home. While here, you'd laugh at the story of a nigger getting burned alive or a little girl getting raped even if you found these things to be utterly repelling. There was no point in calling them out. If you weren't ready to laugh at that sort of stuff you weren't in the right place. /b/ served as an introduction to this mindset. After getting your baptism by fire you were ready for the proper boards without feeling the need to be a master troll and post dicks or dead bodies in a thread. You knew that wouldn't shock anyone. Everybody had seen /b/. And so the rest of the board could discuss more interesting matters while maintaining the same amoral attitude.
But then /pol/ came with actual political agitators and shills. Being bombarded constantly with ideological memes people were pulled into moral discussions that had no place on 4chan. In response they shut out /pol/. But with this, 4chan started to allow morals. And with that, many fun topics and memes became serious.
On the other hand the "ironic" shitposters made it clear that they didn't like the no-fun attitude, and rightly so. But their way of addressing the issue is killing self-moderation.

I mean, being an ESL wasn't illegal. I could barely form a correct English sentence back then, and in German tradition I always went for overly long and complicated ones that were bound to have mistakes somewhere. I didn't get called out on that here.
>>147674790
> the best way to go is to take an anti-depressant that helps control the symptoms and talk to a therapist, who can help you get to the root cause.
Shill for big Pharma elsewhere. As previously stated, anyone who actually benefits from therapy never had depression in the first place. Medication is even admitted by therapists and psychiatrists themselves to have dubious properties as well as them not fully understanding how it works, not to mention the manifold possibilities regarding side-effects. At most, medication will curb depression slightly. Again, they're not supposed to be magic pills.
There is a vast schism between those with actual depression and those who claim to have it just because it's the in-thing to have a label. It makes you unique and a special snowflake, you're such an introverted, brooding scholarly individual. Nevermind these same people have the gall to share their ugly 3DPD mug to the world and blog about their problems on YT.
To those actually seriously afflicted your "solutions" are but a joke. Depression is more of having a realistic worldview than any present abnormality.

I still stay since there are a few things worth visiting for but the death of board culture is incredibly palpable.
