Even if it didn't, the author knows the ending. So the anime could have been made as enough of the manga exists to resolve the story. Any more manga would be milking the post ending story.

This series had a lot of censoring since the original broadcast anime even showed naked breasts with nipples. The USA versions would have whiteout, smoke, hair, or more/longer clothing be drawn in to cover up the girls.
