Storytelling-wise, sure, read the manga, watch the anime, whatever, but Evangelion is really visual. A lot of things are lost in the manga.

If you are getting into Evangelion just for the story, you're doing it wrong. Go watch the original series, End of Evangelion and then the Rebuild movies.
