Does anyone else love how straightforward and delicate the stories are in Mushishi? They seem like stories written by someone very young and intelligent, who sees the world more clearly than the average person, but has no real life experience in it. Please tell me what you like about Mushishi, if I should read the Manga, etc.
Will nobody speak about this Anime with me?

It's a great show, my steadfast #2 and one that I always recommend to people.
What are your favorite episodes? I'm quite fond of the dream pillow one, the rainbow one, and the "grown children" one, though I know there are plenty of others that don't come to mind.

Let's debate something in this thread:
>Mushishi
>Mushishi zoku shou
>Mushishi zoku shou 2nd season
which one is better? How would you rate them?
>>147313533
original best
>>147311020
Loved it.
It was actually a family favorite.
>>147311777
May fav is the pickers of empty cocoons, probably because I have a close relationship with my sister and could really relate to those two girls. That episode actually made me cry.
>>147311452
What is there to discuss?
>>147313533
It's the type of show where ranking the seasons apart from each other is pointless because it's all overall the same quality and tone throughout the whole series, I can't think of a reason one would hold one season above another.
If you're going to dissect Mushishi and rate parts of it better than others, you have to do it episodically. The answer was Hihamukage, though.
>>147311020
>has no real life experience in it
What does this even mean? That it lacks the cynicism those defeated by life hold?
>>147311020
making assumptions or discussing the author's characteristics in general tends to ruin anything enjoyable. If you like something, imo, it's better to leave it at that.
>>147311020
>written by someone young... who has no real life experience in it
did all the subtext fly that far over your head?
pic related. read the third paragraph
also let me add something someone told me when i was newfag
>If we don't talk about it, we like it
which is why nobody discusses mushishi
>>147311020
The anime is an amazing adaptation but it's worth checking out the manga anyway, it includes the author's comments on each chapter and her inspirations for them.
>watching mushishi
you FEEL mushishi
>>147311020
>They seem like stories written by someone very young and intelligent, who sees the world more clearly than the average person, but has no real life experience in it.
Oh don't be silly.
And yes of course you read the fucking manga what is wrong with you? Why didn't you do that in the first place?
>>147311020
now read Yuki Urushibara's Sakii now. I really wish she will make more stories since I dont know if she has a new serialized series or not
>>147322237
*Suiiki
Anyone have that link where shiver just plays while there is a background of ginko smoking?
really need that.
>>147311777
Lingering crimson
I have a problem with nice old people, it's the only episode in any anime to have made me cry
I have no idea what you're talking about, OP you sound like the MAL version of a hipster.
>>147313533
I wish I could get them all on BDs with decent Eng subs. I have the manga but never have been able to buy the anime.
>>147311777
The one with the lightning child and unloving mother really stuck with me for some reason.
>>147323116
please respond
I have been looking for it and the archive isn't doing shit.
>that ryukyu episode
maximum comf
>>147323616
Here you go >>>/f/3149674
GINKO A CUTE! A CUTE!!!
>>147316148
I think because the whole art looks and feels like someone who is very connected on a fundamental level with people's motivations and what people care about deep down, so like there's a profundity or depth to the stories that are told and the characters, but the manner of expression is sort of basic, like someone who doesn't have life experience, or someone who is trying to explain something really complex to a child.
I watched this right after finishing Mononoke. Found the 1st ep unbearably boring so I dropped it. Was it a mistake, anons?
>>147311777
I like the one where the guy is waiting for his girlfriend who disappeared in the ocean.
>>147325208
No Tanyu, YOU are the cute.
>>147325473
The ending song pretty much destroyed me.

>>147325473
I forget which that is. Was it in the first season or the second?
Or, shit, do you mean the one where she's adrift in the boat and a long time passes?
>>147325257
You're just not ready.
>>147325908
First season, and yes, that's the one.
i kinda liked it,sure, but it gets kinda repetitive.
>has problem
>mushi
>>147326810
If it wasn't caused by a mushi, he wouldn't be there.
Mushis are the narration's vehicle.
>>147319627
>>If we don't talk about it, we like it
But everyone talks about Evangelion all the time.
>inb4 /a/ doesn't like it
Most people here clearly do.
It's the coziest anime I've ever watched. The only ones that come close are Aria, Kino no Tabi and maybe YKK
>>147327391
But Mushishi can be dark, disturbing, and sad. The only thing cozy about it is the slow pacing and the beautiful backgrounds.
>>147327215
>everyone talks about Evangelion all the time.
The original show?
No one talk about it unless he just watched it.
The only things discussed are how shit the recent films are.
>>147327635
>No one talk about it unless he just watched it.
The "what the fuck did I just watch" threads are mostly made by people who've already seen it and just want to talk about it.
Also, waifu threads, and the occasional threads about the lore and unanswered questions are quite frequent. So NGE is still talked about even outside of the rebuilds
On the other hand I never see anyone bring up YKK, Kino, Nadia and stuff like that
>>147325217
Being 'simple' isn't just a japanese thing, it was clear to me they were going for that atmosphere.
The author is 42 and a woman. Beyond that the series main character acts more like a doctor than anything else, you can pick up any episode of the series and its exactly the same. Its House M.D. with the supernatural. That doesn't even take into account the huge amount of wabisabi in the anime. You're just wrong.
>>147311020
I like it because the meaning of each episode is very elusive, you can tell it's there, you feel some kind of moral to the story, but it's never directly analogical.
>>147311020
Mushishi is probably my favourite anime. I especially love its sparing use of music, opting to usually stick with the sounds of nature.
>>147330419
>you will never live in this comfy world
Honestly, why even live?
>>147330827
To remove kebab and return the land to how beautiful it was, why else?
>>147326810
There are loads of things that happen in that world and to Ginko that we don't see because they're not in the story, because, if you can believe it, they're not about bugs.
>>147311020
A personal favorite if you ask me, the art, the story, everything is perfect. Each episode has something that makes you say, "wow, that was great".
It's amazing how in only 20 minutes or so, tells a better story than most of the anime out there
Now I want to watch Mushishi again thanks OP.
>>147329250
What exactly is wabisabi anyway? I've seen that term a bunch of times, but I never understood what it was.
>>147333412
Based on the results of a quick jewoogle search it seems to be some pointless and contrived pseudo-philosophical shit, made up by people who like to think themselves in circle until they're convinced something that's a worthless fabrication is true and real, and probably Japanese circle jerking as well.
yeah, mushishi is probably the best new anime in years. and it does it so effortlessly you gotta admire it.
Does anyone find the "it's pretentious" argument completely retarded? I never got that feeling when I watch it.
>>147335667
This, moeshit doesn't even try
>>147336019
It's call pretentious by stupid people and outright malicious trolls. Pay no heed to the sub humans.
I wish there was some kind of encyclopedia of mushi.
They were interesting.
The author ended the series but not the story, the end is just the last we get to see of what Ginko does. It makes me wish she'd draw some more material, extra chapters would be great but even just some and artbook or something like that; so we could see what happened later in Ginko's life.
>>147327215
>everyone likes Evangelion
>>147338017
Are you legitimately retarded? Fuck off faggot
>>147333412
From what I understand it's about the beauty of ephemeral and imperfect things.
