The thing about Kumiko as a character is that she doesn't fit any single archetype. She's cynical but quiet around people she doesn't know, she's angry with Shuuichi for something very trivial but gradually gets over it as the show progresses. She looks up to Reina as this god-like figure at first then later becomes her equal. Even though she's friends with Hazuki and Midori she's still not as open to them as she is with Shuuichi, Reina or her family. You can clearly tell how she grows as a character by the end of the first season, it's not a complete overhaul like some other shows that get praised for having good character progression do, but just enough to be noticeable yet still have her unique essence. Her whole character feels very real.

I think, hopefully, VEG would be the one to catch up to it in terms of having random/experimental animations and effects. Stuff like in Hyouka's earlier episodes, like Chitanda's hair, which somehow lessened as the show progressed.

Maybe not a clear way of saying it, I mean things like this .webm. Also the cat tripping scenes in the seventh, Kurumi's episode being all pastel-like and colorful like a children's book, the effects in Reina's incident, especially that fluffy outline once they're inducted inside the bunny family, all the camera angles and action shots during Mai's event, it just looks real good and ties in well with the current occurrence too.

And it's likely the last comedy-ish show in a long while since everything after it would be drama shows.

When she joins the band it's purely down to convenience. She's ultimately afraid of trying hard because she doesn't want to fail, so it's easier not to try. She's also a slave to her own abilities: she can tell the band is shit (including herself) which further kills her motivation.

As the show progresses she eventually overcomes these fears thanks to her friends, as well as the same ambition which made her question herself in the beginning. There's even a nice band metaphor, where every different personality has to harmonise and pull everyone else along as a whole.

Don't even give a fuck about Yuri or memeing. Kumiko is top-tier
