I think their two OCs look the best, because like the rest of the show they fit in with all the colours being thrown around. Maybe like Koito too because she's fully red whereas all the other humans have average / typical colours.
If they toned down her redness and make the loli less colorful, it'll probably make the distinction between the humans and the phantoms more apparent, since that's what they're going for based on the designs of all their eyes

The anime is what it is supposed to be.
If you like the idea of a fun episodic anime, Phantom World is good, at the very least watchable.
But of course, most idiots on /a/ think it's a generic battle harem, and then watch it expecting something like SAO or some shit like that, and then, since it doesn't fit the structure they're expecting, they call it shit and badly written.

Phantom World is just characters put into random willy situations every episode (playing house with bunnies, trapped in bear wonderland, fighting in feudal japan, etc.) and that's it. It's not supposed to have plot progression. Even then, the last two episodes do a surprisingly good job of setting up a satisfactory conclusion.

I thought it the easeness of being influenced depends on the problems one is having with their parents. Haru seems to have gotten over with his troubles, though still having them, Reina still struggles with her parents and Mai who didn't have any troubles wasn't affected until she ate that rice.
