IIT: Book series that would make a good anime/manga
Moby Dick produced by SHAFT.
>>147111984
Alice in Wonderland by Shaft, Kyoani, Mappa or Madhouse would be great.
While in general I think that Western literature can't properly be adapted to anime without being bastardized, I'll have to admit that Mistborn would probably make a decent anime. Especially considering that the fights are basically anime fights, and the story is full of garbage exposition where characters explain their character development to the audience.
Lolita :^) or Naomi
>>147114373
Ignore the picture, I was originally going to post The Tartar Steppe before realizing that it wouldn't make a good anime at all, so I went for the meme answer.
>>147113666
Pic related blows the boring book out of the water though.
The 39 Clues
Not because of the actual quality of the books, but because it's one step closer then other series since for the Japanese edition, they literally edited it into a LN for kids around late elementary/early middle school
And yes the image to the side is the official art style they use in the series
His Dark Materials trilogy. I feel like it's got the right fantasy sort of setting to work.
Deltora Qu.. oh wait
Dune: the anime
Changed to better fit anime
>Paul goes to a battle highschool filled with bene gesserit
>is level 0 because he cannot look back into his past female lifes
>everyone makes fun of his weakness
>suddenly he can look back into both his male and female pasts
>during one fight he suddenly unlocks the power to look into the future
>they have a fight with the fremen they learn about their culture and become friends, chani joins the school
>when they fight the harkonnen paul refuses to kill the baron, then the emperor steps in, kills the baron and they all become friends
>>147118066
It even has the multiverse cliche that japan loves so much
It'll be a hit for sure!
>>147114373
>Lolita
As an episodic hentai SoL about their travels it would work perfectly. The deconstruction of iyashikei.
Rangers apprentice could be good since it's one of the best (and funniest) YA series I've read and features:
>one of the only "non fantasy" medieval settings and more of a relistic version
>One of the best Bully redemption arc in the first book alone
>A MC doesn't mindlessly swing a sword but uses long bow and mainly relies on field tactics
>Halt best ranger
I think the series is only up to book 8 in moon speak so there is a small (really small) sliver of hope it gets some form of adaptation before book 10
>>147120566
I used to read these books in days but the later ones and the obvious good guy shit was just boring.
And how was the bully redemption arc any good. As far as I remember the kid just protected him against the boar. Ive seen LNs with better writing than that
>>147118832
Stop this faggotry. Make it like Arslan. Also his mom is canon delicious cake.
Imagine an animated lord harkonnen rolling around with antigravity belt for his 900 lb self, salivating at the thought of molesting Paul.
WoT
Star Wars
>>147123287
>animated Dumai's Wells
Fuck yes.
>>147123563
>black shading covering half the scene
Eh, I'll just wait for the blu-rays
>>147123126
>Make it like Arslan
how is that.
Also BG are always delicious cakes in the first books
>>147123625
I'm sure it'd be fine if they just invert the colours.
TWILIGHT BY MADHOUSE YEAHHHH
What studio would do The Odyssey/Illiad?
I've posted it before; I'll post it again. Thus Spoke Zarathustra would be good too.
>>147123686
No high school bullshit. We have enough of that. Look at arslan, no school setting. Same story beginning. He's a prince (or duke's son), then his family are killed and he's left alone to the throne (dukedom.)
>>147125159
It was a joke since paul is like a male version of the BG and they are all female. Like those stupid battle harem anime. I think dune could still work out since atreides have a honor boner and there are swordfights and shit. Although dune tends to have poor adoptions.
>>147111984
picrel, though most of Shakespeare's tragedies would make a good anime
>>147125855
oh come on
>>147125115
Because if there's one thing House of Leaves needs, it's yet another layer to it's narrative.
>>147125964
You know it.
>>147111984
Shut the fuck up Rei, stop locking yourself in a library and providing inspiration to more goddamn blue-haired shy girls like you. Do you know how stunted you are from isolating yourself because "muh Gendo"? Haven't you ever considered how disconcerting you are too people, because you seem like such a fuckdoll mattress?
Seriously, go on a date with Shinji to the movies.
>>147126116
Even Rei knows Asuka is bestgirl and she wants to give her the room she needs
>>147112187
Moby Dick would be a girl and the whole thing would be slice of life.
>>147111984
The Bridge on the Drina
I think the first Cour would grip Evangelion fans. The mother-son relationship echoing throughout.
And the show in general should appeal to LOGH fans, there isn't much war, but there is 400 years worth of history.
The location is the main character, so i think Shichiro Kobayashi would be perfect for it, if he lives long enough.Yes, i found out about him from digibro, no we won't talk about him here.
A Karamazov brother's anime, or anything from Dostoyevsky would be the most talked about things on /a/.
Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks
Pretty much a perfect fit for an Anime
>>147111984
Quiet Days in Clichy (uncensored)
On the Road (the protagonist is a loli)
The Carnal Prayer Mat (uncensored)
An actual fucking adaption of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms would be nice too. The chink tv show is pretty good, but isn't enough.
>>147126833

>>147111984
The most obvious answer.
>>147126116
>
>>147111984
The Brothers Karamazov. 25-36 episodes would be perfect.
>>147123287
Honestly anime would be the only way adapt WoT to the screen. At least it would give it the best chance of being good. Live action movies would suck, live action Game of Thrones style TV shows would suck because of low budget and the amount of special effects that would be needed for the magic. Animation is probably the only way to go if you want to give it a proper adaption.
>>147127076
The Crime and Punishment manga managed to make me feel the same stress and discomfort as the book, so it succeeded there.
>>147127130
>>147127187
Grim brother tales. And actaully adapt the full story every detail Don't butcher it like Disney.
>>147127288
Andersen is way better, tho.
>butcher it like Disney
That reminds me, The Little Mermaid would be fantastic.
>>147125115
>zarathustra
nips already quote enough post-modern literature out of context as it is. much less a whole book that relies on you understanding all western religion to understanding the critique.
>>147127024
how would that work out well as an anime. Him fucking around and wanting to stick it in every girl he meets isnt exactly animefuel
>>147127112
cant wait for shitty korean sweatshop CGI.
>>147127402
only if they omit the shitty copout ending.
>>147127575
True enough. Plus to really appreciate Nietzsche it helps to have at least a little background of German philosophy.
>>147127887
Just have her turn into seafoam and die.
>>147127575
>>147127895
without a reading guide reading nietzsche is just stupid. The niche of people reading nietzsche and understandiing it that also watch anime is tiny.
What would work out better is some original anime about a group going back in time to the ancient greeks and they meet all sorts of philosophers. Every time they go to sleep instea dof just waking up the next day they wake up years later to see important part of ancient philosophy. That way you can cover the development over 200 years. Even then it would be a niche to cater to and why would nips bother with western philosophy over eastern
>>147123287
Yes please. If I won the multi-million lottery I'd totally help fund a 20+ animated movie adaptation of this.
>>147128048
That sounds way too much like some Magic School Bus tier shit. Just make Diogenes a NEET and let's call it a day.
>>147128048
It's one of those things that sound cool on paper but you know that will never sell without significant butchering.

My dream anime is still about a hikki turned hitman when he needs to finance his hobby on his own. But that is for another thread
Stoner by KyoAni
>>147111984
The only things I can think of are lavish visually in a way that simply hasn't been duplicated in the digital era.
That's the only reason to do something as an animation instead of live action, and anime just doesn't do that anymore (it was rare back then too to be sure though).
>tfw no culture anime
In my head, the art style for this is somewhere in between Madoka and Invader Zim. Madoka's wideface with Zim's squarish designs and clean lines.
Sonja is my novel waifu though.
You want the full meme trilogy of an Infinite Jest anime, produced by SHAFT, with a soundtrack by Death Grips and Neutral Milk Hotel
I honestly cant see Skulduggery Pleasant working as anything except anime
>>147111984
I'd kill to see a faithful anime adaptation of Dune.
Foundation Trilogy would make a good series as well.
>>147129983
>I'd kill to see a faithful anime adaptation of Dune.
Id like a faithful anything of dune. The 1984 movie seems like they didnt even bother reading the book. Although I read that getting the IP is pretty hard
>>147125964
House of Leaves the book review.
Discussion about the rebuild series so far?
Anime would be the right medium for ASOIAF.
>no budget restrictions for big battles
>can keep the colorful imagery of the Houses in the books intact
>don't have to deal with aging actors changing from the characters description
>>147130328
I feel they would have problems with most idealistic characters getting fucked up.
This.
>>147130277
Meh.
I hope they give Rei II some closure.
Asuka needs to stop being an action-girl side character.
Give 3.0 Misato some depth and in general explain better the timeskip clusterfuck.
Gendo became a generic villain for whom everything always goes according to the plan. He's beyond saving.
I guess Toji, Kensuke and everybody else is dead for good. So they got ditched suddenly and offscreen, like in NGE. I really liked Rebuild Toji.
Maybe give Rei Q some interesting development. Even better if it doesn't revolve so much around Shinji and Asuka, otherwise it'd be the same thing as Rei II and that would be rather pointless.
Kaji's also gone and god knows what happened to him. Ritsuko is the sidest of side characters and there's nothing to be done about them at this point I suppose.
I still think Mari is absolutely unnecessary to the plot. I like her attitude but she's just taking the other characters' screentime while not providing anything in terms of plot or character development.
>>147125964
Horror in anime is underdone and this, if done well could be NGE-esque in it's aping of an existing mythology (in HOLs case the minotaur/other tropes) with some relatable at first but ultimately twisted and tortured characters (Navidson, His Brother, Karen, The Exploreres, Wax, Truant).
It'd get in the edgy teen crowd, the psued crowd and the HoL fans (the 10 left that remember it), it lacks any cute girls doing cute things though
How would they adapt the letter's from Traunts mother? The poetry?
If Otomo directed it, it would be fucking incredible.
Mistborn series would make for a pretty good battle shounen considering it is pretty much structured like one
>>147130587
>He's beyond saving.
rebuilds are beyond saving. Its pretty much just something they shit out when their cocaine runs out
>>147130621
Exactly what I'm getting at. It has some manifold appeal and the horror genre really could use more titles. It'd be real neat to see how the first expedition into the interior of the house would play out compared to the book.
>>147130833
It'd probably have to be a few OVA's
Or better yet, staying true to form with the book, short videos that appear irregularly on the internet (as that's how the book came to be)
5-10min segments, out of order, then spliced together into some episodes
I'm worried it wouldn't carry the same weight or feel as the book
Come to think of it that'd be much better live action, OG Blair Witch style
I think I have some filming to do
>>147130981
It'd be intriguing to see how much weight it could carry, given the nature of the story, but I was thinking an OVA would be the best route, in terms of length and focus. Good luck, at any rate.
>>147127778
>Him fucking around and wanting to stick it in every girl he meets isnt exactly animefuel
That's like total battle harem material.
Just make some of the existing male characters into women, and it'll work.
>>147131179
What are some horror anime it could borrow from?
With a similar tone to Memories: Magnetic Rose, it could be fairly heavy
>>147131327
Not necessarily anime, but if they copied the characteristic paranoidness and expressions of say, Ito, that'd go a long way.
>>147131300
Except a harem anime protagonist is completely oblivious. If anything its more a role for the pervy sidekick. And the MC actually gets some, unlike the pervy sidekick
>>147131507
Of which I'm referring to Junji Ito's body of work, anyway.
>>147131547
>Ito
Ho lee fuk
I think we've got our art director
His work for Flying Lotus is great
>>147131519
Nah man, Trinity Seven broke that mold, and GATE has the harem protagonist actually married!
Besides, Severian is pretty oblivious, he'd easily make the cut for it.
>>147131547
Itou is shit, read Kago Shintarou.
>>147131722
>before fighting with the roses tries to bang the shop girl
>bangs the blonde girl
>bangs the servant/actor girl while taking a boatride
>continues banging his gf while the actor girl has to listen to them
A series of unfortunate events.
>>147131890
Never recognizes that she's trying to screw him, never recognizes his own grandmother, never figures out the other two's agenda, never notices he's got a robot for a friend...
Of course, he's a liar, so maybe he never banged any of them.

The maximum ride series.
The Dresden Files. It's got ridiculous shounen action scenes, bad guys who use katanas for no goddamn reason, and even a metric fuck-ton of lolis thanks to the CarpentersAnd more could be shoved in hypothetically if they push the Red Court into the foreground
>>147120791
When I say best, I mean for a young adult/LN series (seriously half the time we don't get that in those types of books or it takes multiple books to happen)
But if i had to defend the arc in ranger's, the reason why the redemption arc works in the book is during the boar both the mc (Will) and the bully (Horace) made an attempt to save the others life, and since neither killed the boar (Halt was the one) both agreed they where even, so Horace in no way owed Will for when the actual redemption comes in where he defends Will agains those three battle school students who go after him. Hell if this was in the beginning, Horace would of probably just sat back and watched.
Catcher in the Rye
the farseer trilogy probably.
It has talking animals.

I'd say either pic related, the Abhorsen Trilogy, or the Shadowfae chronicles.

Too bad the live action got cancelled. That was some fun shit.

The fights in the vampire colonies would be amazing animated.

Shit, I didn't even think of this. Fuck yeah.
>>147134339
Most YA series are anime level writing and character development
This is a PRIME example
It's shit literature, decent as a GN, and would probably do great as an anime (Girl protag, effeminate male characters, cartoonish violence/anguish, teen angst)
I'm surprised that James Patterson isn't writing gook toons, probably would be if he wasn't crushing the beach read/bored middle aged woman market
>>147132109
I liked how they referenced this in Haruhi, and I'd be interested to see an adaptation.
>>147134124
