I can understand how this would translate to "well said" but isnt 抜かす a vulgar expression? It doesnt make sense this guy would say a vulgar expression to someone he just called 御仁, or did he just say "omitted"?

Dead thread, time for some reading practice! Feel free to just read it or even post your translation attempt!

Among many anecdotes from prewar Japan, I will mention this one.

It happened when a certain kendo master visited a gun inspector for Imperial Japanese Army.

The master spoke such towards the inspector, after seeing his firing practice: "That gun shall not hit me."

And so, gun faced the master, those words its trigger, truth to be assessed.

No, not one gun but six, six pistols in six pairs of hands.

Their effective range was 25 meters.

The master took one target's spot on the range.

Ok, let me explain what it represents
The quote references the fundamentals of human ethics and morality in modern society. Equality, freedom, truth, etc are what human coexistence is based off.

So by challenging them, by calling them hypocritical, Mamiya is criticising humanity itself. He is saying they are flawed at heart, that attempts to seem honest and pure are nothing but lies. It shows how much he has been betrayed and scorned by those around him, that he sees humans as beings not worth saving. There's parallels here to Christianity's concept of original sin, and the idea that only through a Messiah can we be cleared of our taint and darkness.
Is this Sca-ji's message too? I believe not.

But only by portraying the belief of the opposing school of thought can he rebut them, and display his own philosophical viewpoint towards humanity's value and the meaning of life.

To go to Japan and live there (I enjoyed the times when I stayed with a host family), and to have access to a large range of literature. Also because calling out some Japanese people on their implicit xenophobia or racism is fun.

I don't even like anime. There are some good ones like LOGH, S;G or that one with the pink haired yandere girl, though. The rest are complete and utter shit from what I can tell.

Manga I only use to masturbate. I don't know why anyone would bother to read the text in that, as even in English I just skip it.

Visual novels I can understand wanting to read, however the plot is usually boring or not creative, or can be judged by the images.

I'm also interested in Japanese Buddhist materials, though I suppose just for Mahayana I should have learned Sanskrit.

To understand this you have to consider Mamiya's life. He's never known freedom, he's always been treated unequally, he's never had friends or respect or love. To him, the people who preach equality are those who look down and scorn him, the people who preach truth are those who lie the most. So while what you say is true, you have to understand he has no reason to see these ideals as things of value, because they're hopelessly entangled in his mind with suffering and betrayal.

It's not a literal translation. You can easily say "an hour at most" to mean "about an hour" if you're trying to downplay how much time it will take. Doesn't mean there is a hard deadline or something. "Do the dishes, it'll take like 10 minutes at most"

No one in the west would even know what the first one is. Not because of being 'ignorant' but because it's very simplistic design of a food we don't regularly eat. Nothing wrong with that change.

Hey, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but...

There's a manga series I really like, but the scans for most of it that currently exist are not up to my standards, so i'm considering buying the whole series from a place with good resolution digital volumes, and just applying the existing translations to those and doing my own release.

I already got permission from one of the two groups who did translations to do this, and I can do clean up and typsetting on my own.

The issue is, the existing translation seems iffy in a few places. I can see what it should have been in most cases due to my familarity with the series, but I don't into moon in the slightest myself.

What's the best way/place I can get somebody who does into japanese to "proofread" those spots just to confirm they translated it right or my fixes would be improvements?

I don't have money to pay a translator/group to do it (well, I can if I need to...), and again, I don't really need the whole thing translated, just parts of the existing translation to be checked.
>>
>>147133839

It's like 3-4 lines per volume, though some volumes have a lot more then others.

I could just ask here, but the thing is, it's a 33 volume series, and i'd be trying to do a chapter a day, so that means i'd be making 1 post or two per thread over the course of a year, and I don't wanna shit up the thread that much

>>147134222

You could probably learn enough Japanese to do it yourself in that time.
>>
>>147134440
I wouldn't have the time. I would barely have enough time per day just to do the editing and typesetting just of the existing translation, let alone learning japanese and then proofing the patrticular lines.

Plus, even if by the end I knew enough japanese to do it myself, I wouldn't at the start/for most of it.

I guess i'll just ask here pending finding another place.

Forget that post. Anime Japanese is as different from real Japanese as cartoon English is different from real English, that is to say, it is different, but not so different that you can't learn from it. Also a few more from the extra pages in that volume

>page 156, volume 8 "there is but one boat"seems wierd. Could just be formality as past examples, but eh.

>page 159, volume 8, this whole page is just awful, it's just clearly wrong, let alone too formal for Tio, who is rude and brash. "I am tio" should be "my name is tro". "To be honest, i'm not human" you should be... I'm not sure what, exactly, but not that. "I am one who..." should probably be "You see, When my human partner holds my book and reads the spells, I can use magic!" Not sure how i'd naturally transition into "I'm a demon!" though. "this person is my partner" should probably just be "this is my partner!". Likewise "She's an idol of the human world" should just be "She's a famous idol in the human world!", if not just "She's a famous idol!".

>page 176, volume 8 extras, "Maril kalnoa is here, that person has nothing to do with me!" is awkward. I'd make it "I, Maril Kalnoa, have arrived. That girl has nothing to do with this, let her go!" or something.

>page 182, volume extras "but if you show me any more concern..." could probably be "But if you contuine to help me..."

Again, volume 8 for whatever reason has a ton, volumes 1-7 only had like 15 spots across all of them together.

I really don't need you to go through all of these right now, but since you asked for examples...

I want to try learning Japanese by immersion, in other words I'll continue anki, but I'll focus on consuming lots of Japanese media.
I want to surround myself with Japanese stuff as much as possible, hoping that I passively pick some stuff up by doing that.

I plan on doing my reps, read manga or hentai and after I'm done with that, I'll consume raw anime or tv shows and stop watching anything my native language or even english.

There is a lot manga that I can read, but what are some anime that might be useful for this?

I started downloading anime for little girls like Precure and thought about watching Digimon in Japanese.

Any advice?

>>

I mean that is pretty my goal, I'll watch a scene and hear what they say and try to put the pieces together.
>>
>>147147038
Yeah I was joking sorry bro

Well obviously exposing yourself to as much Japanese shit is the best way to learn the language

In terms of anime you're just gunna wanna watch loads of SoL at first I'd imagine, since it's all really easy and there's a fuck ton of it, and then slowly work your way up to more themed SoL, and eventually actual plot based shit

You could consider watching japanese study videos like what they have on nihongomori on youtube too, since they're all in Japanese and you can touch up on your grammar and voacb at the same time

This is one of the many reasons why example sentences should always be sourced from the material you're mining from, or provided alongside a quality English translation like in Core6k.

How do people actually read their vertical runes? Calibre doesn't support vertical text and after going through 6 other programs, the Kindle app comes close but it doesn't allow copypasting text.

I've also somehow found a moon reader but it requires adobe air and that doesn't exactly bode well for the competency behind that one.

Do people really read their runes as split html files in their browsers?
