Just finished this.

Did they let out their inhibitions and have kinky teacher/student sex before they went their separate ways?

I just finished this as well.
And 5 centermeters per seccond.
Just wanted to watch a animated romance with my gf. 5cmps ended with no resolution. I get that it's ment to be about the parts of life that can pull people apart but flow of it was loose.
Garden of words was better. The narritive was more coherrent and it was more than just background porn.
But again the ending just left these two characters floating.
Does any one know some good well animated romantic movies?

Any good anime or films that end with a younger male student and older female teacher getting together and having sweet and tender love making? Please Teacher is all I could think of, at least Kei had the balls to fuck his "wife".

You didn't watch it well enough. The resolution is that the female MC moved on a long time ago, and the male MC moves on at the ending.

For someone who has experienced the same thing, it's pretty moving.

Garden of words is pretty good, I really liked the symbolism in the movie, which was easy to understand. I don't like when movies have symbolism that's too hard to understand (Spirited away was a bit too hard for me, but then again there's a lot of cultural and economical references).
>>
>that schmaltzy ending scene
Ruined the entire thing for me.
I was already disappointed by the high school drama reveal but that ending made me cringe.

They never fucked, and she transferred over uncomfirmed allegations of a relationship with another student. You're right, and that's exactly why GoW had a bittersweet ending. Their love was forbidden, and she made the rational decision rather than the one that felt good.
>>
>>147116228
Dont worry, she went to another school and got together with a fat disgusting old man
>>
>>147117642
Pretty certain she didn't harbor sexual feelings for him. She was severily depressed, and he helped her communicate and live (walk) again. She wanted a hug, and he wanted something more. Although she acted egoistically like male MC says, I don't really think she was a bad person. She had just regressed a bit because of the depression.
>>
>>147117771

She transferred to Itomori or whatever the town was called and got hit by a meteor.
>>
>>147108858
I remember it for the rain and feet.
>>
>>147117926
How do you even manage to do that
>>
>>147116228
>She'd be charged for being a pedophile.
Pedophile means you're attrcted to children, since when is a 15 year old a child. It's probably illegal in virtually every country, most have laws about higher legal age of relationships between people in a position of power over another, but it's not pedophilia. Stop propagating this retarded shitty media meme that everything uder 18 = you're a pedo.
>>
Of course they fucked. They defintiely got back together a couple years later.

Right?
>>
>>147108858
Feet, nigga.
>>
>>147101142
>But again the ending just left these two characters floating.

That's how literally all of Shinkai's movies end.
>>
>>147118123
Being attracted to kids that age is ephebophilia, so you're technically correct, but you'd still be charged since the person is under 16 (or 18) years. The teacher wouldn't lose her license because of this though, but because of a teacher/student relationship. This is illegal because it's a misuse of a position, even if she didn't get charged for pedophilia.
>>
>>147118732
>The teacher wouldn't lose her license because of this though
In Japan, they'd just get a telling off from the head teacher, but in most Western countries, once they'd got out of prison they wouldn't be allowed within 100 metres of a school or bus stop or anywhere else that children congregated, maybe for the rest of their lives.
>>
>>147104396
This. I've seen people on this board calling her a cake before, but I don't consider them to be cakes if they've been fucked before. The whole cake concept stems from the idea that if she hasn't been eaten (fucked) after 25, you throw it in the trash, like an unsold cake on December 25.
>>
>>147119037
People don't know what cake, waifu, moe or virtually any other term like that means anymore.
>>
>>147105492
Yeah, me too. I still kind of hate her, but I at least have to pay her respect for her performance here.
>>
>>147119037
Pretty certain the original, old meaning of christmas cake is that it's a unmarried 25 year old woman. Being a virgin is not a must.
>>
>>147119102

HanaKana's best role is in Binbougami Ga! She should really have more roles like that.
>>
>>147119037
Cake doesn't mean that, retard, it's when they're not taken, not when they haven't been fucked.
>>
>>147100390
that movie left me emotionless, i understand that it had to be rushed for the lenght time it had but it felt so fucking cheap, like someone trying to sell you some shit candy in a gold wrapped confection
>>
>>147112520
>I really liked the symbolism in the movie, which was easy to understand.
What symbolism?
>>
>>147119435
Shoes, age difference, rain, chocolate and beer etc.
Those were easy to understand, and I understood what it meant without having to read about it afterwards. I don't like symbolism that's too hard, like Mawaru Penguindrum.
>>
>>147119499
Care to share some of it my man?
>>
>>147119499
Well then, you better share since I can't recall any symbolism other than the blatantly obvious.
>>
>>147119499
>I don't like symbolism that's too hard, like Mawaru Penguindrum.

I just file that away as pure pretentiousness. Sure, there's probably some meaning to be had, but when you make it as obtuse as Ikuhara does, it's just intellectual masturbation on his part. When everything in the story is just a symbol for something else and none of it is really happening, you've just got a shitty overly-complex parable, not a real story.
>>
Is shinkai still a hack? Has he finally found someone to write shit for him? I've not seen anything since 5cms
>>
>>147119673
>>147119749

You can just google it, I think it is also mentioned in the wikipedia article.
>>
>>147120009
I mean I can Google it but it's not really about "interpret things for me, I'm too lazy" and more about "I really want to hear what you have to say so we can have a discussion."
>>
>>147120534
Oh, sorry. I misinterpreted.
Thing is she is acting younger than her age, and he's acting older than his age. He's ambitious, thinking about his future and working part time. She's not going to work, severely depressed (anhedonia, also only alcohol and chocolate taste good), anxiety and doesn't get her relationship to work. She even take advantage of a high schooler's love to comfort herself (she really just want a hug). He's making shoes to stand on his own and grow up, and she's wearing his shoes to stand up again (on her own). Also they only meet when it rains (she only needs him when it's rains maybe? But she needs him apparently on sunny days too).
And also when life's hard you should make it simple and enjoy nature etc. I probably skipped something right now, but at least these things were pretty easy to get.
>>
>>147119013
That's only for male offenders.
>>
>>147121181
>That's only for male offenders.
What isn't?

Anyway I choose to think that he went to see her and they fucked.
>>
>>147120820
I think rain in this movie is a larger than life presence, Shinkai has in past (5cm) used weather as destiny allegory. Rain brings them together when they need someone's companionship the most. It stops raining when they're ready to move on (it's true in some sense, the rain season stops and clearly the purpose of their short companionship should've been fulfilled), it rains one final time as that presence feels there is a need for them to meet again one last time. This allegory goes well with the tanka as well.

A faint clap of thunder

clouded skies

Perhaps rain comes

If so, will you stay here with me?

A faint clap of thunder

Even if rain comes not

I will stay here

If you, too, stay

Although I don't think Shinkai really intended it that way.

Chocolate and beer are just as much of an insight to the character as metaphor. She's clearly going through depression and that's when people consume alcohol and chocolate a lot of the times in romantic settings. Beer is more her about drowning her sorrows, chocolate is more about her wanting to feel good again.

Lastly the film is really about companionship and when to depend on it and when to go about your own path. Shoes fit this allegory very well, as when in the final moments when boy goes out of her house she chases after him, there's a specific close-up shot of shoes that are lying there but she doesn't wear them and in next shot she sort of trips but then finds her balance herself without the need of the shoes, she doesn't need to wear shoes to walk properly just as she doesn't need this companionship to find a purpose in her life anymore.

I really like Shinkai movies for the bittersweet aspects like these. I don't think I've seen any director in Anime or live action that uses symbolism this well to tell the story. And they're not your usual ham fisted generic romantic movie symbolism.
>>
>>147121811

I like symbolism that's easy to understand. I'm a fairly intelligent person (I just found out I can join mensa), but if the symbolism get too long-stretched I really fall off the train. Like Mawaru Penguindrum. There I had to watch it with /a/ to even understand what was going on.
>>
>>147121965
>There I had to watch it with /a/ to even understand what was going on.
I watched it without /a/ and most of the time had no idea what the hell I was supposed to be getting from all that.
>>
>>147122149
A lot of the symbolism was way over my head, and when people discussed I was just ooookay, how could someone really know that? Maybe I'd get more from it now, but I haven't really gotten more intellectual the past years, I'm just watching anime and reading manga.
>>
>>147121965
Yeah I get what you mean. In Shinaki's case it's usually there to add depth to a very simple narrative. If you catch it, it's good but if you don't you still understood the movie. Aside from some cases I too mostly hate the fiction where narrative literally hinges on viewers understanding of your references and metaphors you put or else the story remains too incomplete.

If you're under 25 your brain isn't fully developed, and you likely don't have the life experience to understand every character motivation that even the simplest hacks put into their works.

Just keep watching, keep living, and you'll get it eventually.

>>
I just read an article in the Economist, apparently they aren't Christmas Cakes anymore. Now it's "New Years Noodles" and the age is 31, as in after the 31st. The reason for this is because men and women are getting married an average of 5 and 4 years later.
>>
>>147123291
Yeah, I know. I even got hand on some real books. They're just collecting dust. I have a mental list of books I really would like to read which I've heard of but never read. I guess it's something like I've heard of some food that's really good, but I've never eaten. I can still talk about how good it taste, but I've never ate it myself.

It's just easier sitting down with cartoons, comics, movies or tv-series.
>>
>>147123466

That's probably like that the mean age of getting a first born is 29 years now. But I still think it's 25 in Japan, they're pretty conservative over there.

TV-series such as Friends and Sex and the City probably changed this a bit.

Watched them both like 2 days ago. Garden of words felt like it could have been exploited more and the end felt a bit off, but i gave it the benefit of the doubt hoping to god that when he spergs out the translation is not word for word what he says or what he means.

5 centimeters moved me pretty much to tears. Thing with this one is that what happens there between the two is pretty much my life story, which is still, frankly, to be continued...

I've only watched the subs. Since it's movies, I'd guess the work they put into voice acting is higher than your usual anime.

It also make you focus more on the visuals than on the text, which probably is pretty important in these movies.

“Art” is not equal to “entertainment”, son, no matter what Hollywood tries to make you believe in.

Also, it is not clear that you can make something that is “not boring” to everyone.
>>
>>147129533
Art has no intrinsic value.
If it does not provide entertainment, it is worthless.
>>
>>147129622

>>
>>147129160

First of all.. in 5cm/s the relationship fucked up that guys life for several years because he couldnt get over it and in garden of words the teaches literally said herself that he saved her life when everything in her life went went to shit. Now its clear that these arent
>small-scale romances that happen every day and still make lives colourful

Also, every story needs a begining, the climax and the ending ... if you skip the ending with shit like "oh and then they may or may not lived happily ever after" of course you piss of the audience. Tell the kids in your family a tale of Snow white but end it with " oh and after the prince killed the evil queen he returned to his castle and later maybe met with the princess he saved or maybe he didnt, it doesnt matter" they will tell you to fuck off because that is not how you end a story.
>>
>>147130472
The points of both of those movies isn't to show whether they lived happily ever after. They are both representative of a phase of life, characters go through that phase and learn something. The movies rely on themes it explores and ends with with the message it was trying to provide. It doesn't give a fuck whether you want muh happy ending or not, if you watched closely and understood what it was trying to do, you'd know why it ends the way it does. You don't have to like the ending or the message or the themes, you just need a basic comprehension level to realize it achieved what it set out to do.
>>
>>147130472
