It's possible, but his attitude about her name doesn't seem as simple as that. It shifts too much. He starts casually asking if she's Ram, like he doesn't much care about her name, until she corrects him. Then we see it's actually something he feels quite certain about, even if he's willing to accept he might be wrong.

The other thing is that it's funnier if it isn't Ram he's concerned about, for all the same reasons you think it should be Ram, because that's what most people would think in the setting. If they were told there was an Oni who might play some important role, they would expect it to be the special prodigy and not the worthless sister of that prodigy. It'd be hilarious if Roswaal bet everything on the wrong sister because his worldview wouldn't have allowed him to even consider that Rem might have been the important one.

Complicated. He feels extremely positive emotion toward her and can guess her (obstructed) expressions and reactions, as if he knows her. She also talks as if she knows him. This freaks him out (as does her baseless obsession with him) and he tries to reject her, but ultimately fails to tell her to her face that he hates her. After she explains why she loves him and gives her 'love yourself' spiel he accepts her and swears to save her. That said there's still too many open questions left for it to be a comfortable situation.

Would Rem's return somehow improve the situation? I've read the synopsis of Arc 4 but I'm still not sure what to think.

I think what's going on is that there's two personalities of Subaru. One of them being deathworld dreamland clubhouse Subaru who unequivocally loves Satella. Going through a reread of arc 4 and I feel like I stumbled on foreshadowing I couldn't put together before.
1. Echidna calls out Subaru on knowing a place similar to her dreamrealm/castle (and acting as if he's purposefully ignoring that he does). Subaru honestly doesn't know any such place, but admits Echidna's assessment of his behaviour isn't wrong. My guess is this is referring to Subaru's postdeath dreamland.
2. Subaru finds the idea of Echidna's realm being a dream extremely easy to accept, as if it was something he was familiar with and his heart understood.
3. Echidna mentions when contracting Subaru not to talk about her dreamland that he's already in a similar contract. My guess is that this is like Emilia's contract with Puck and is blocking his memory of postdeath dreamland.
4. Narration at the start of Subaru's first trial mentions that whenever he wakes up, he feels a choking sensation as if lifting his head up from a pool of water. Also, he instantly wakes up if it's on his own, but stays drowsy a while if awoken by outside interference. This could just be prose or dressing but I think it's foreshadowing, there's something weird about Subaru's sleeping.
5. The postdeath dreamland isn't necessarily post-death. In arc 6, he goes there after falling unconscious, not dying cont

6. Subaru is able to create a body for himself in the post-death (post-swoon) dreamland in arc 6, and likely did so much earlier in arc 3 as well. The place seems to bend for him and the narration acknowledges this in arc 6.

7. During his first trial, Subaru's hounded by crippling pain, guilt, headaches etc that only go away after suddenly hearing Emilia's voice. Subaru assumes it's his body rebelling against his constant running away, but just going off the vocab used to describe the sensation, I think it was actually a Witch Factor activating. Subaru's dad notes Subaru's face didn't look like one of a shut-in hikki that day, and Subaru has a strange feeling from the moment he wakes up. Again I think a Witch Factor activated or something, either way I think there was some trigger for this and the fact it's in the trial and it's hard to tell what's memory and what's not is purposefully obfuscating it.
8. I don't think it was the Sloth witch factor interfering because Echidna had already disarmed it prior to Subaru taking the trial.

My personal conclusion? No fucking clue. The best thing I can come up with is maybe he's in a covenant, which he inherited+somehow activated, and there's actually been something weird about him before he even got isekai'd.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't get attached to the characters too much, though a part of me thinks Tappei is making everyone and everything so fucking miserable in order for the good ending to be that much more satisfying.
