Why the fuck is Ryouta a branch head?

Like, who saw a mentally fragile young man, who'd greatest skill is animation, and thought 'Yeah, there's a good candidate to lead hundreds of people in the battle against Despair'.

For that matter, why the fuck are all the Branch Leader's Ultimate's?

I mean, some of them have useful skills, but why the hell would you put a wrestler in charge of a branch?

I mean, the skills of a branch leader would demand leadership, organization and sound judgement, something maybe half the shown Ultimate characters display.

To begin with, people with specialized production skills like Blacksmithing, Chemistry and the like shouldn't be given leadership positions, because having to waste time leading means they can't be doing the thing you hired them for in the first place.

Would it really have shat on their ego's so much to use non-Ultimate's in Branch positions?

Yeah, there are people who prefer her for that, and that's fine. What I like is that even with the minimal time they've had to show for it, without even showing a backstory, real Chiaki is shown to be a fairly different character from the start from the story, starting from a listless loner, then coming out of her shell, and from there developing into more of a leadership role and helping the class stick together and form bonds. What's even more ironic is that it was partly due to advice she got from normal Hajime about making memories, something he probably completely forgot about.

I think Chiaki doesn't die in the Despair arc. I think she's alive in Future and she is the 13th branch leader. She had the AI in the NWP modeled after her in order to revert Izuru to Hajime. There's really no reason for the AI to be in her likeness otherwise.

What if one of the 7 characters is Mikan? Since she was the second DR2 Junko got too and the first 77 who despaired, as well as dying knowing it was a sim, her waking up is plausible.

I wouldn't say that - for instance, you know the moment the big guy shows up, they're not making it out alive - but I agree that if Chiaki does die, it's not going to be because of Chisa. One thing I think a lot of people talking about 2-5 forget is that Chiaki had to kill somebody to end up there. At the bare minimum, if there is any parallel there, Chiaki will end up killing somebody even if she only had the best of intentions. However, there's nobody around for her to kill as they all show up elsewhere later, timeline-wise.

Of course, if Junko pulls a Ryoko/Izuru on her, so much so that even Izuru with all of his talents would have a hard time recognizing her, then it's possible that she could be somebody else - and, at the same time, it would technically fulfill "Chiaki dies", as in death of personality. That said, I'm not sure that they'll do that.

The difference is mainly that Despair Komaeda would side and kill out of despair for the sake of hope. Notice that in the anime, Komaeda only claims his act of killing Junko is out of hope. In 2-3 of SDr2, he tosses Mikan to the trash after she saved his life simply because Mikan killed out of despair. If Mikan had only killed to get herself off the island, he wouldn't have cared.

You know, when Tengan was talking to Munakata, he said to Munakata, repeatedly, that Munakata had 'sacrificed' Chisa in order to eliminate Despair.

Maybe it's just the way the scenes were translated, but the Tengan kept saying it and the way he seemed to be phrasing it seemed to be implying that Chisa had in fact been killed as a part of Munakata's plan. That plan he said Tengan didn't understand.

I think that, more or less, everything that took place at the start had been a part of Munakata's own scheme. This is the guy who, remember, said he'd kill anyone and everyone he had to as long as Despair went with them. And Chisa said more than once she'd be willing to die for him.

I think that the game's initial premises had all been fabricated by Munakata as a means of creating a new SHSL Hope since he felt Naegi was inadequate to the task. Even Chisa's death had all been a part of his scheme. He was supposed to fall into 'despair', kill Naegi, force the rest of the survivors into a corner and then be killed by someone else, who then becomes the new SHSL Hope- one who isn't afraid to break a few eggs.

Ryouta was most likely meant for this role. His personal history gives him a backdrop that would make him becoming a beacon of hope seem like a meaningful transformation. Tengan was surprised by Ryoura being there, remember- but Munakata wasn't.

But something went wrong with the plan. Naegi didn't die- various people and factors kept protecting him, and Munakata realized that his game was being controlled by someone else. Munakata then assumed that this person's motive was to take over the FF after surviving the game while protecting Naegi. The attacker didn't kill Naegi either- even though they were supposed to. Who the intended attacker WAS I could only guess at- probably Bandai if I had to guess.

Bandai makes the most sense to me because if it were him, then a NEW attacker could be selected, and nobody except Munakata would be the wiser.
