The series really dropped off around episode 13 for me. The songs are good, but the story is just so shit.

The middle act of the series went literally nowhere and barely anything happened. Now the ending is being rushed, I don't even care about finishing it. I think Windermere feels like they what happened to them was so terribly unfair that they can't trust humans no matter what. Under NUNS they had corrupted officers take advantage of their resources and insult their lifestyle, then they went to war and suffered lots of military and civilian loses at the hands of NUNS who, according to their evidence, then dropped a DE on their planet, fucked off and told everyone that it was their doing. The last two eps were in part about Xaos members and the Aerial Knights exposing their different POVs, but being unable in some cases to find a common ground because of too different experiences (like Bogue, who is so angry and hurt about his family that he's almost unreachable, although we will see how he reacts once the truth about Carlisle is revealed), while in others some understanding was found (Hayate with Keith over Messer, kinda). Typical Macross misunderstandings.

I actually like the theory someone came up with on a different site; the superweapon might not be a Birdhuman, but a genuine superweapon that could mind control the entire known universe. But that the superweapon would need fuel, and it just might use the ENTIRE Windermere population as its Batteries!

That would mean Roid would get the weapon he wanted, but not realising it would cause literal extinction of his entire race. It would be an ironic development, and I am not sure if it is better or worse than a birdman 2.0 ending.

Cassim lost everything and was a decent man who fought because he wanted a safe planet from NUNS for his son, Herman is another decent man with a sense of chivalry who sees this as a necessary evil. Also, none of them like Roid's plans. Keith also has some sense of chivalry, respects his enemies and has a severe case of PTSD after he witnessed the bomb. Bogue is a hotheaded asshole, okay, but he is also a traumatized kid by the loss of most of his family, one of them dead because of the bomb, and who had to see the enemy frame his people for such a crime. Keith and Bogue were lovely kids before the war, but what happened really left their mark on them. And Heinz is just a kid starved for love who is being used for what he and everyone else sees as the greater good of their planet. Their actions aren't good, but I can sympathize with them more than with Arad.
