Academy City also known as Academy City of Science and Technology is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the Tokyo Metropolitan Employment Area. It is the primary setting of the Toaru Majutsu no Index series and its side stories.

As the city's name suggests, it is a city of several schools and institutions of higher learning from kindergarten to university level that learn side-by-side along with the scientists who research on psychic powers and higher technology, the latter being one of the primary reasons for its establishment. It is the most advanced city in the world and its technology is said to be 30 years ahead of the world.

Academy City is composed of 23 districts, called School Districts which are simply numbered from one to twenty-three and each of these districts have a specific purpose.

Amestris is a Unitary State, with a population of about 50 million and a Parliamentary Republic type of Government. The Head of State is the Commander-in-Chief of the Military who holds the title of "Führer" who concentrates the ranks of Head of State and Head of Government.

It seems the country was composed by several former nations, quite diverse in culture and religion, but incorporated by the expanding state of Amestris. The administrative regions of the country seem to reflect those differences. The country has five administrative divisions: South Area, West Area, North Area, East Area and Central Area.

The East Area is the most diverse, sheltering a nation of a different ethnicity called Ishval. The province of Ishval is ethnically and culturally different of the rest of the country: the people there being religious; most of them renounce alchemy, which brought many conflicts with the Central Government in the past and has culminated in the Ishval Civil War.

Totokanta City, located in the south western part of the Kiesaruhima continent, it is one of the four largest cities on the continent and where the story of Sorceress Stabber Orphen and it's spin-offs largely take place.

It is a commercial city which helps sustain the capital city, although it is under control of the regional goverment the city has received autonomy from the King. There is a canal which flows through the center of the town leading south towards the cities port.

To the west lies the Aiden Moutain's, to the east lies a lake a large lake. North of the city lies another major city which is about two weeks drive by carriage.

The Inu no Taishō's tomb, also known as the grave of Inuyasha and Sesshōmaru's father, was not really a grave at all, but rather the giant skeletal remains of Inu no Taishō. The gateway to his tomb was hidden in a black pearl, which was inside of Inuyasha's eye. The location was kept hidden from his oldest, full demon son Sesshōmaru, and at the beginning of the series, we were introduced to Sesshōmaru as he hunted for the location of his father's grave; the Tessaiga was kept here.

The Inu no Taishō's tomb took the form of an enormous dog-like skeleton with armor on the shoulders and on the chest. According to Myōga, this was his true form.

The Abyss is the deepest level of the Astral Plane, called "Hell" or the "Void" by some. This realm is the polar opposite of the World of Ideas, where souls that have accepted death without any lingering regrets or attachments eventually pass on to. Not much is known of the Abyss save that it's located underneath the realm of the God Hand and is the home of the Idea of Evil. Because of the nature of this layer, any form of individuality is purged, as the spirits of the dead all form an interconnected chain. The chain usually appears whenever an Apostle dies, emerging from the death wound to cover the body before retracting with the Apostle's soul, while the body is reverted to its original human state. It does not appear to be Hell in the traditional sense, as in, a place of punishment or torment, but rather a place where souls are lost in the amalgam of space and matter within it. Those that make sacrifices to the God Hand, and others who deal with demons (which usually includes the victims of those same Apostles) are taken here when they die.

The Lemon Beach House also commonly referred to as the Lemon or simply Lemon is the place where it all began. This is where Ika made her first appearance, declaring it as her base of operation due to it being the closest to the beach. Lemon serves as the main setting for the Shinryaku! Ika Musume story (for both manga and anime - despite the fact that Aizawas' place is also used more often in the manga).

Initially Ika spent her days after trying to invade living at the Lemon. However, after the TV broke, Chizuru invited her to spend a night at Aizawas' place. Asterisk is a well kept city on an artificial island, located on top of a crater lake in northern Kanto. The name Asterisk comes from the bird's eye view of the city, which resembles a hexagon. The city is very large, boasting both underground chambers and large buildings on top, as well as numerous ballast chambers to keep it afloat.

In addition, the Sirius Dome (シリウスドーム), the largest arena within Asterisk, is located in the same area at the center of the island.

However, there are dangerous areas in the city as well, primarily including the Redevelopment Area (再開発エリア) and the Rotlicht (歓楽街) on the edge of the Redevelopment Area.

The police department of Asterisk is known as the Stjarnagarm. They only have jurisdiction over the central area of Asterisk as the schools are under their own jurisdiction. They may only enter schools grounds during extreme situations or if they have permission to do so.

The Blue Sea is a huge body of water spanning across the entire world of One Piece. Nearly everything in the world can be found on the Sea, save for sky islands such as Skypiea and Weatheria.

The Sea itself is divided into five oceans by the Red Line and the Calm Belts: Northblue, Southblue, Eastblue, Westblue and Grandblue.

The main governmental body of the Blue Sea is the World Government which currently exercises control over a hundred-seventy countries. The Revolutionary Army is the main force opposing the World Government and they control multiple islands including Baltigo and Momoiro Island. The Yonko are the four strongest pirates who rule over the New World.

Moving from one section of the Four Blues to another is no easy task, as they are separated by the Red Line, which would entice a full-voyage to go through.

Sidonia (シドニア) is a massive interstellar seed ship and Guardian carrier. The title of the series is named after this very ship, which is the last known remnant of humanity.

Both an interstellar seed and carrier warship, Sidonia is one of the many seed carrier ships that houses the surviving remains of humanity after the destruction of Earth by the Gauna. In a elongated octagonal shape, seemingly built right out of an asteroid, it has two massive boosters on the rear as its propulsion. However, since there's minimal spacial resistance for movement, the ship mostly relies on inertial drift for travel. Suggestively, Sidonia doesn't have any advanced FTL (Faster Than Light) capabilities.

Within the ship, Sidonia is a limited self-sustainable colony. Even though the colony is self-sustainable at extended periods, they are not unlimited in resources in food and materials. To remedy human food consumption, scientists modified every citizen to be capable of photosynthesis to limit their need for food. The ship also seems to run on what is called "Organic Converter Reactors", where they send people who have reached an age limit of some sort to die and become fuel for the ship. It is also believed that the organic material is also partially used for the production of food. These machines are allegedly extremely complex, and it is almost impossible to find someone hiding within one. When resources are low, Guardians also double as advanced scouts and retrieval units for mining water and raw materials for maintaining and constructing for Sidonia.
