Because part 5 had shitty scans for years that everyone considered "good enough" except for people that actually knew about the original and knew how shit those scans were. To be fair ACDC having a raspy creepy voice fits his character a lot better than a generic deep voice. Same goes for Kars.

The problem with ACDC was that the story never did anything with him and he was hyped up as a major villain only to job hard to Joseph. Which is kind of a shame really. I posted this in the last thread but ACDC could have been a really interesting character. The concept is good.

Kars is my least favorite main villain but I like him a lot as a character (even if I think he was a dissapointing main villain).

I like that Kars is revolved around luring the reader into a false sense of security because he appears to be honored and civilized and his companions prove themselves to be like that too. ACDC and Wham prove themselves to have principles and their own code that makes them more sympathetic than one would expect, and Kars seems to follow that idea.

Until the end where he backstabs Lisa Lisa and proceeds to take a giant shit all over the Pillar Men code and indulges in sadistic torture for the sake of the Red Stone. And even then, it's not as if he didn't like his companions (the first thing he does after becoming an ultimate lifeform is try and avenge their deaths). It's just that his ambition was the most important (and his ambition is actually completely understandable).

It's the same thing with ACDC. I like Kars. I like Kars a lot. But I can't help but feel as if I could appreciate him better and that the character wasn't executed as well as he could have been.

But I still like him. I love all the Pillar Men.

At least that worked well to build up what a bastard Cars was. ACDC and Wham pretty much only existed to serve as a foil to Cars, who you'd expect to be true to his word and honest from the other two, but is revealed in the end to be a cheating bastard who lied to kill Lisa Lisa and get the stone. I saw an Anon in a thread say Cars went after Joseph as soon as he became perfect to avenge the two other Pillar Men, but that goes completely against everything that Cars was revealed to be. He just saw the other two as tools.
ACDC at least served his purpose in that sense, although Wham did too and he was a better character. It's a shame most people don't like Cars.

While I like SDC, it's one of my least favorite parts because it has aged the worst to me. A lot of what it does, it just what most shonen do now, and the most unique thing about it (stands) became a lot better in later parts as we got more than just all combat-effective stands.

If you think about, Giorno is the only Joestar who knows absolutely nothing of the family. He doesn't know who Jonathan was, what the Joestars are, and there are hints in Vento Aureo that indicate that Giorno kind of idolizes DIO (it's supported in how he interacts with DIO in EOH where he expresses dissapointment and thinly veiled disgust).

Giorno as a character already carries a lot from both Jonathan and DIO in him without even knowing it. I think having him discover his actual origins would just be detrimental and would kind of ruin the character, and I think Araki believed this too.

But Kars shows repeteadly throughout Part 2 that he cares about Wham and ACDC, and he outright screams at Joseph "I'll avenge their deaths and then I will enjoy my new powers".
It's just that Kars sees the honor codes and the willingness to fight in Wham and ACDC as weaknesses that were only detrimental to their ultimate goal (and he's technically right).

Kars is the kind of character who says one thing but actually believes in another thing.
For example, look at the picture in this post. He spends the entire fight shit talking Joseph in front of Lisa Lisa and acting smug, saying that Wham is the battle genius. When Wham starts to destroy himself, he screams at Wham to stop, and when Wham dies, he silently grieves his death by grabbing the leftovers of his wind.
Then, he says that Wham's purity was a weakness, which seems to be him badmouthing a dead companion.
But when the other vampires start to badmouth Wham, he kills them for no reason.

Kars didn't resent Wham, he resented the warrior spirit that led Wham to his death. They were his companions, and they died. Kars doesn't want to die like them, which is why he despises the Pillar Men code (which Joseph says is a way of disrespecting their memories, but Kars doesn't care what a human has to say)

Making polite smalltalk with them in their free moments, giving them the wedding-rings and letting them fool around with random humans, internally worrying about ACDC when he doesn't make his report, responding to Joseph in Switzerland that suggests he's angrier than he would be if he merely lost a tool, making Wamuu a horde of groupies, vampire-horses and a stadium to fight Joseph in, screaming at him not to use his final technique because it's dangerous to him, and instantly murdering the vampires that trash-talk him after his death. He didn't even demand unquestioning obedience from them - when Wamuu was uncomfortable about killing a child Kars did it for him, and nor did he discipline him for attacking him over 'muh shadow'.

The Pillar-men were a family. A fucked-up family, but a family nonetheless. Except Santana they disowned him.

Yes, actually. Out of all the villains, and that includes Valentine, Kars is the only I really don't perceive as "evil", per se.

Look at his story. Kars was just trying to help his race reach their full potential so they could stop cowering behind sunlight (which is actually completely justified) and they all tried to kill him. It's really not Kars's fault that the Pillar Men were massacred. What was he supposed to do ? Lie down and let them kill him and ACDC ? I mean, the Pillar Men were right in trying to kill him since Kars is a danger to the ecological balance, but it's not like Kars was trying to be harmful.

And then he continued his quest to immunize himself, his companion and their adopted kidlings against the sun and the Ripple users tried to kill them, too. And all through Part 2, Kars really doesn’t even care about all the crap people are pulling (poison challenges and fights and all that), he just wants his damn stone so he can finish his quest from the beginning of time.

I’m not saying he’s an angel or "did nothing wrong" (I hate this meme), I’m just saying he’s arguably the least “evil” of all the villains considering he literally didn’t want to bother fighting or causing carnage or making sure other people got shafted so he could attain power. Everything hostile he does, apart from creating hundreds of vampires, is more or less a reaction to being attacked or people trying to prevent him from achieving his goal, which isn’t even (intentionally) harmful to others - it’s not like his plan was to attain absolute power and enslave the world or anything.

Even his final attempt at Joseph is about a personal grudge on the man who killed his family (and the Pillar Men were, in their own weird way, a family).

And if you think about it, Hamon was created specifically to destroy Kars and his family and his creations, right? A single touch of it is deadly to them, able to spread throughout their body and burn them alive from the inside-out, as it did to Wamuu and ACDC. While it has other uses, apparently above all it was created as an anti-vampire/pillar tool.

Is Kars that bad of a guy for trying to wipe the practice out? Sure, killing kids would be unthinkable from a human standard, but you can't exactly judge the pillar-men by human standards. The lifespan of a human is the blink of an eye to them, and they clearly don't consider most humans to be on the same level as themselves. It'd be sort of like a human destroying a bunch of weapons specifically designed to kill them, right?

He was likely worried that, since Giorno and Jotaro are technically related, Giorno would be able to sense his presence before he could get close. Jotaro's also got too big of a presence for a stealth mission and a hit-and-run, even with time stop, which makes Koichi's range and innocent looks better-suited for the job.

I also like to think that Jotaro probably also just wanted to do something nice for Koichi by granting him an all-expenses-paid trip and, technically speaking, work experience via working under the Speedwagon Foundation, which would be useful in getting him into a good school when he graduates from Budogaoka.

From a writing standpoint, Araki probably chose Koichi to introduce us to Giorno because a character from a previous part introducing the setting and/or new protagonist is really useful for leading the readers from one part to the next. Speedwagon and Straits introduced the change in times between PB and BT, Joseph introduced Jotaro and Stands, Jotaro introduced Josuke, and Koichi introduced Giorno.

The Pillar Men can't exactly be judged from the viewpoint of human morality since they are, for all intents and purposes, gods.

The story literally draws attention to how humans are like ants to them, with how Wham kills Mark without realizing just by walking through him.

Actually, I think this is part of the reason why the finale makes such a big deal of Kars being a traitor to the Pillar Men code of honor. Because otherwise, Kars wouldn't really be "evil" per se, since it's not like he has any actual reason to mind the humans who stand in his way.

I actually think Kars had far better reasons for being a villain than Joseph had for being a hero. In a sense, I consider Kars to be a bit of a prototype for Funny Valentine (Funny embodies several ideas that were iniciated with Kars but much better fulfilled)
