Most of the stuff they talk about is straight out of the handbook.
Artillery spotting is still something people do, there's plenty of talk about the strategic situation of notGermany which paralells ww1 just the same. The railroad defense is another thing that the Germans employed to effectively defend on multiple fronts, and leaving it is something that caused them tremendous difficulty.
Use of mages as artillery spotters and air support seems legit enough to me.

I haven't seen any major flaws with the tactical descriptions the author gives, mostly because the tactics are taken from real historical warfare.
