Now, that we have to wait till October for a new chapter, let us use the newly acquired free time for other activities. Like, for example, cooking!

I, and some other anons too, had the idea for quite a while now. It took me about a month to prepare myself and to implement the idea into something solid. I plan on preparing all dishes in the following months. About a week should be enough time to fully translate their ingredients into ours, buying said ingredients, formulating secret techniques and the actual cooking of a dish.

The biggest problems are money and finding the equilibrium between the manga and our prepared food. I want to get as close to the original as possible, while still being edible AND affordable for your average poorfag.

I hope I can remain faithful to my plan till the end.

The only thing left to say is, that I don't want others to feel discouraged just because a retard went first. I cook a lot, but I don't fancy myself as anything else than a hungry guy. All the food I'm able to prepare came from my parents. So, preparing something without a cooking book and prior knowledge is something I'm not good at and the first dish I made today was quite the ride for me.

The first dish was already a nightmare for me.

>Huge scorpion
The biggest obstacle. I was able to buy a couple of asian forest scorpions, but they all were already boiled, dehydrated and seasoned.
In the end I went with a couple of brown crabs (cancer pagurus) instead of a lobster. The reasons are money and the use of the crab's carapace as a bowl.

>walking mushroom
Bitch, please. That's tofu. I went with two chunks of solid tofu.

>Mushroom feet
Mushrooms! I used two big white mushrooms.

>Algae
I used celery instead. Would result in too much sea flavor with the crabs.

>Taro
Root parsley are the magic words. Way cheaper, tastier and a better choice than the taro's western counterpart, potato.

>Dried slime
Rice noodles! Glass noodles are too thin and don't resemble a noodled slime at all.

>Water
Water.

Translation of the ingredients was, more or less, a success. The only other ingredients I brought along were salt, pepper, carrots, onions, red wine and seasoning sauce.

>>146882398
Good luck anon. Please don't die of food poisoning.

First I prepared the vegetables. Peeled (carrots and root parsley), cleaned and diced everything. The leaves of the celery are a good seasoning too, but I already got enough from the other ingredients.

Wrapped a towel around the tofu and put a heavy object on top to get rid of some of its water. I waited for an hour.
>>
>>146882448
Don't worry, I'm still alive after the first try.

>>146882481
The crabs were put into a saucepan with already boiling water. They take the most time. About 20 minutes for the nippers and legs to be done. Together with the crabs go 500ml of red wine.

Another pot is prepared for the noodles to boil in. 10 minutes and they're done. I put the freshly made slime pasta to the side, since it's only needed at the end of the whole ordeal.

I put the crabs out of the water after the time was up and let them cool down. The crab water was strained (through a sieve) into an empty pot and boiled up again and seasoned with salt and pepper. Vegetables (everything but the onions) went in after the water started boiling.

I suddenly had a soup. While waiting for the soup, I diced the tofu and roasted it gently together with the diced onions. Salt, pepper, seasoning sauce went in as well. After everything turned golden, I put in just enough from the soup to drown everything and let it boil up.

The crabs are next. Turned on their backs, I pulled their legs and nippers off. Opened the shells of the legs and put the meat onto a plate. The nippers went into the pot.

DEKIAGATTA!

It was fantastic. The taste was new to me, because that was the first time that I actually cooked with a sea monster. The tofu did its job and absorbed the water, tasting even better than I thought. The slime pasta was the same. Both ingredients worked well in absorbing the flavor. The crab meat was unbelievably tasty.

I got such a great taste out of it, just what might I spawn when I prepare the other dishes? I can understand Laius now more than ever.

Jesus Christ those are big crab legs. I could really believe you're eating some kinda sea monster, here.
>>
I am still fully expecting this manga to end in misery. All of her stories end badly.

Did we ever get confirmation from /tg/ as to what spell Marcille used to heal wounds?
>>
>>146883113
Not every mangaka has a twitter account. Or public one, for that matter.
>>
>>146883274
I'm pretty sure the magic system in Dungeon Meshi is based off some Japanese thing, Wizardry I think it was called. It's definitely neither Vancian nor spell-slot style stuff, so trying to equate Marcille's unnamed spell with anything in any of the D&D PHBs is right out.
>>
>>146883449
I was aware that DM was based on Wizardry. But I don't remember anything like it. But then again, I have not played Wizardry is decades.

Only the nippers though.
I had to be careful, since they were still alive when I got them. They got fished this morning from my local fish seller. I forgot to tell him, that I want them dead. I put them in the freezer for a few hours after I found out about that.

Right between the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Doesn't even take half an hour to get to one.

Aye, I went overboard there. Potatoes are great and you can't really compare these two.

Cooking your own food is one of the best ways to improve your life quality. It's not that hard to be honest (desu), it just needs some trying and failing. Millenials just can't cook because they've been brought up on semifinished food.

Large spiders and scorpions are basically like crustacean anyway, so lobster or crab would probably be closer to the manga than trying to use an actual scorpion.

Giant puffball mushrooms are basically mushroom tofu, lots of bland evenly textured "meat".

I'd have to take a look at the manga again but I think there was something that gave a clue of what mushrooms the feet were like.

Seaweeds are actually super versatile and aren't overpowering with other seafoods, that's why there are dishes like cockles and laverbread.

Thought about that at first. Like you said, it basically is mushroom tofu, but I already used mushrooms for the feet and wanted a bit more variety. Tofu was a good replacement for that.
>I'd have to take a look at the manga again but I think there was something that gave a clue of what mushrooms the feet were like.
I went through the first chapter a couple of times and didn't find anything back then.
