I'm nearly done with the Rebirth Freeza saga, what is the absolute point of anyone who isn't Goku, Vegeta, Trunks and Goten? Everyone seems wasted but it was cool minor characters got to fight Freeza's henchmen but I was expecting some kind of new power up for them.

Also, why couldn't Freeza be redeemed? It would've made a 10/10 dynamic for Super, just imagine him and Piccolo becoming glorified babysitters.

There is a whole difference between character development and take a joke to the extremes.
A good portrayed of fatherly Vegeta is GT, you can hate it or not, but Toei portrayed him well. He cares and shows affection to Bulma, spend time with Bra, is protective of her, wants to make Trunks (and Goten) to train, but at the same time he is still a little tsundere.
