Anon this episode essentially made the very idea of Rose becoming a squire pointless. Sorey in the game had a need of Rose but that isn't the case here. If anything anime Rose is quite a bit weaker than Sorey it just feels as though if she joined him she'd only hold him back.

But considering how Alisha is connected to Ladylake, pairing her with Lailah might just work.

Except this is actually a bad thing from a narrative perspective since it's yet another example of Sorey and Mikleo effectively not allowed to feel negative emotions. In this case having them having them be depressed and then decide for themselves to get up and still keep going would have made the scene infinitely more effective, since Rose's addition also brings the player out of the drama. For comparison's sake the manga has the scene be between Sorey, Mikleo, Zavied and Lailah and all of them are given time to sort through their emotions before continuing on.

Seriously her addition hurt the scene she had no reason at all to be in that skit.

Dude like half the skits in Zestiria serve no real purpose. That's true of most Tales skits, but Zestiria is particularly bad about it.

I don't even like Rose but to act as though she somehow ruined that arc by making a couple of innocuous comments in a skit I is ridiculous. What ruined that arc was how little the game explored how the revelations affected Sorey and Mikleo. They basically say 'OK that sucks but our real family is the one we grew up with' and carry on largely indifferent. Mikleo then goes on to barely give a shit when his mother died in his arms.

The problem with that arc was the writing in general, Rose had nothing to do with it.

Yeah the manga is leagues above the game's story in how it handled. The story focuses more on Sorey and Mikleo instead of "purity" and so it improves all around and doesn't fall into the pitholes that are "muh purity or muh malevolence". Characters are allowed to feel negative emotions and everyone is better off for it. The only character that isn't really improved upon is Rose and that's just because her story wasn't emotional to begin with so her story feels disjointed to begin with when compared to the rest of the cast.

Like I've pointed out numerous times, the anime seems to be taking it's cues more from the manga rather than from the video game and novel.
