Have you done your pilgrimage to Cuenca and Alarcón yet, /a/?
>>
I'm at it right now. Visited Alarcón yesterday (pic related) and now arrived at Cuenca, preparing proper reference shots.
Will bump with photos occasionally.

Mate, I was there yesterday. Left this morning for Malaga.
Old town Cuenca was really great.
If you didn't see it today, there is a free abstract sound 'art' display in the hanging houses next to the bridge. The art is a waste of time but they have clean toilets.

Are you planning to upload your pictures somewhere? I´d love to take a look at then, will surely bring back memories.

Looking back at the blog, i didn´t put as much effort on it as i should have. I should have uploaded comparation pictures at least, And maybe some sort of map with the most remarcable locations, but i guess anons were happy enough.

First time

One of the best animus I have ever watched.

It's also one of the only OP's and ED's I never skipped.

7.5 and 13 are the only OVA or am I missing them? I just want more.

Also, is the implication that the real Desert wolf was Kurehas dad or did I think too much into that?

Yeah, some of the verses are distinctly against catholic teaching
>>
>>146709433
Shit, I always forget that Catholics don't do baptism-by-belief.
>>
>>146709747

Well, baptism is a little different with some "belief" allowances. For example, there's a "baptism by blood" cause for somebody who is unofficially catholic by normal baptism but wanted to be, but died before the ceremony. This is mainly attributed to children of catholic parents who die young.

But amazing grace has two issues with it. Skip to 2:00 for the direct verses without the guys backstory on how American Catholics are basically Protestants who don't know shit.

I heard a story from a family friend. When he was doing mandatory service, at some point some people came to his barracks and sounded a triangle. At that point he just went "laaaaaa", and those guys got him into the choir just based on that. And during winter, everyone was out in the cold clearing the roads of snow, only the choir was comfy inside and going "laaaaaa".
>>
>>146710195
That pic is nice because it also shows the parts of old city that did NOT made it to the cut. Like, the XVII century entry doo of the Parador (the "fortress"), the cathedral (left of pic, the building with the towers and teh round window), or the plateau at the end of the cliffs (right of the square-ish building above the Parador), which was the "old castle" mentioned before (just a large area surrounded by vertical cliffs by all sides but a 50-meters wide entry point, where there was a simple wall with heavy doors and a square tower at either side - you can see them poking over the square-ish building).

For me, Cuenca is part of a longer cycling trip and I always sleep outside (/trv/-kun here), so basically I only spend money for food out of supermarkets. Also, as an Eurofag there was no need to fly to another continent. I am sleeping below the tree on the left you can see in >>146690984

The pink tank is gone then? it´s a shame. About the location where it used to be, from the parking on the top of the city you can see some TV-communication antennas on top of a small mountain, you need to take the road that exits Cuenca from that parking, and take a gravel road on the left to get to those antennas, you can locate the way there on Google maps

Off topic: It would be funny it the pink tank somehow inspired the Girls Und Panzer team back then, but guess we will never know.

>Off topic: It would be funny it the pink tank somehow inspired the Girls Und Panzer team back then, but guess we will never know.
Doubtful. Since Rabbit Team (the ones of the pink tank) seem to be the "movies references team", the most logical asumption is it being an "Operation Peticoat" refference.
>>

In a way, we are lucky that SnW didn´t get much popularity. I am pretty sure that if thousands of people started getting into the abandoned building with the excuse of "OMG, ANIME HAPPENED HERE!", they would end up demolishing the building down, because it´s in really bad shape and someone would end up injuring itself.

I am sure anons that visit that place will be very conspicuous and enjoy the place while it lasts, as IMHO is one of the highlights of the SnW piligrimage.

No, but I happened to be right in time for the Water and Wine Festival ("noche de la zurra") in Requena. Didn't know about it before, but some locals who just talked to me in front of the supermarket told me it would happen that day and invited me in.
I think the SnW staff mixed this festival with the Tomatina, as there are people on the balconies throwing water at you. And the crowd around you might soak you in wine if you aren't paying attention.
Anyway, that was one of the best days I ever had and if not for SnW it would've never happened. Guess that was the perfect pilgrimage.
>>
Are there GPS coordinates for the specific locations or something? Or simply marks on a map?

To be fair it looks like the entire village is crumbling. When you walk in the valley you can hear rocks crumbling and buildings set off-limits as parts of them have been torn apart. It's like the city itself is hanging over the verge of death and no one really cares.

It should be around
40°04'51.7"N 2°07'28.9"W

There's a wall with an open gate above the 2 abandoned houses on the town-side of the valley with the bridge. If you get on the wall, pass beneath the rock on the left (facing towards the valley) and then cross this dodgy ledge you can get there.
>>
>>146722215
Since you are around the zone, I'd recommend visiting Albarracín, a town in Teruel. The only problem is that getting there is a bit tricky (it's in the mountains and in a province that's kind of forgotten) even though it's fairly near Cuenca.

It's not crumbling, anon, the whole historical centre undergoes maintenance every couple years, as do most historical buildings and touristic attractions in the country. I must say I much prefer Toledo or Avila over Cuenca, all being around the centre of the peninsula.

It was a state-sponsored trip through most of the West euro countries with other Ameriburgers. Sometimes the speakers on the bus were used to play music so I felt compelled at the opportunity to share "fitting" music. After we'd entered France and were on the way to Paris I decided to put on Servante de Feu; that turned out alright so I also mentioned where it was from and that's that.

Before that I'd insisted on playing King Crimson's The Night Watch before we left the Netherlands, The Rain Song on the way to France, and, some time after Paris, Hikari no Senritsu and Torikago no Yume (less successfully).

During the annual stream this year and my rewatch (I fell asleep halfway through the stream) it really hit me how much this anime's themes resonated with me and how much it actually taught me about life.

>Even if everything around you seems terrible, you can make your own happiness

or

>If the situation isn't one you desire, proactively step up to influence the best possible ending for all parties involved

Of course, the wotos already had the power (spider tank) to revolt and try to stop the conflict, but it would have taken a hell of a lot of courage to revolt against your own fucking commander and stand up for what you believe in.

This might sound kind of lame, since it's just a cartoon after all, but it really makes me think about how much anime have influenced me into becoming who I am today.

Releasing smallpox in Heathrow? Not so much.
>>
>>146763883

>>
>>146764413

In a Total War scenario like WW2 it is. Hence nukes, bombing dresden, etc.

If a country was in a serious war with the USA, releasing smallpox in hearthrow is cruel, but you do it anyways.

Given SnW is in post-apocalypse-ish AND in a heavy war, 100% fuck them up by any means necessary. Hence the last episode before trumpet playing.

All the engineering progress of a war are both unquestionably helpful for the development of our science and incredibly inhuman against our own kind. Creating degrees of "this is ok but this isn't" is just fooling yourself.
Something will always look worse or better depending on your point of view. You could even say WWI was worse than WWII, totally the opposite of what the body count says, using an argument that killing was way more gruesome back then.
Biowarfare cannot be controlled? Well, nuclear weapons have an unmatchable permanent moral and environmental effect.

>Losing a war doesn't mean your country will just simply vanish, it's doesn't work like that. You will suffer a lot of economic disadvantage, but you will move on.
History proves otherwise. Many countries vanished. And many peoples were bred out of existence due to the occupation.

Unless you believe every human is equal in every way, and therefore the replacement of your people by another doesn't matter, in a scenario where extinction is possible, its better to turn the enemy to glass

>>

>That was like a few thousands years ago. The modern world doesn't work that way.

But it could. So when the possibility arises, you respond accordingly.

Naturally, if both countries acted like USSR and USA, with the M.A.D. mindset, you war normally. Chivalry in war still exists, but as soon as one side throws it away, the other NEEDS to do so.

Its a matter of principle. Even if it never happens again, a country must be willing to go all the way if necessary.

There's an excellent book I'd recommend called 'The Tartar Steppe' - the whole premise is basically what you described. A lonely soldier gets posted to a remote border post and whiles away the decades just hoping and waiting...

It was a very good read, very bittersweet, and touched upon many themes such as isolation, raison d'etre, and camaraderie.

Don't be mean to him though. This is a no bully general.

Plus scitzotypical people misdiagnosed with standard depression don't have anywhere to go or anyone to confide with, so they tend to dump it here due to the feels in the animu.

How do you comfort yourself knowing the world and your life has no meaning? Many people can't bridge the gap like Filicia did. People dump emotions when talking about the things they last drastically emoted about.

So yeah, pathetic bitching. No image to not waste the limit for an off topic post.

He was bitter in not being able to win.

The death and endless war directly opposes how filicia became after such an epiphany. He became cynical and ended up believing 1. That wartime will bring the most technological progress again (from seeing the most advanced technology even prewar being militaristic)

And 2. That the path to unite all countries and progress must be made by warring until the weak capitulate. Only then will there be proper peace. (Rio goes over that the Roman/Helvetia peace will likely not last unless drastic change happens)

He is only out for blood in such that the ends will justify the means no matter what the costs.

Reliquee here. Have a safe trip anon.

Back when SnW was airing it was a pleasure to enjoy the series, and to join the speculah and contribute some info for the charts and stuff. I did the travel because i live in Spain and it was easy and afordable, and tried to share my experience with the blog and pictures because i knew there was people here that would apreciate them, like i would appreciate it if i couldn´t do the trip myself.

SnW threads are pretty much the only thing that keeps me browsing /a/, i try joining the anual streams when i have the chance for the old times sake.

I keep saying myself that i should rebuild the blog with proper texts (maximun cringe when it look at them nowdays...) decent info and proper comparation pictures, but you know how real life is a PITA and takes away the time and inspiration for things you really wanna do. Anyways, i am glad that the blog is helpful to people that does the trip on it´s own.

I have probably said this already, but if you liked the series, you will love a piligrimage to Cuenca, it´s a great sensation when you can associate the real places and the scenes that happened there in the Anime...

That's mostly the 1960's-70's rural or home buildings alongside the river. Let's say Spanish construction in that time was QUALITY and leave it at that. Actual Medieval buildings in Cuenca are in FAR better shape, as are XVI-XIX century buildings of the olf town (and modern ones around it made after the 80's).
Plus, if you check the Cathedral, it fell down a few times in its history and had to be rebuilt anew twice. Last time I visited, parts of it were closed for restoration. May it be that some of the buildings you saw "set off-limits" were for the same reason?

Spanish public transportation is actually quite good, you can find buses going to/from almost every tow, or even small village; if you can't find one betwen Cuenca and Alarcon, maybe you can find one betwen Cuenca and wherever the buses to Alarcon come from.

Five seconds in Google "buses Alarcon (Cuenca)"

So? Interbreeding is a natural process that would happen anyways, this would be merely speeding it up. I agree it's not a nice thing to see your culture and tradition being suppressed, but it's still much better than going apeshit with bioweapons and turning your continent into a polluted wasteland or starting a second world tour of the bubonic plague.
>>
>>146773834
Honestly, maybe it's because I'm in the US, and not the shitty part, but I find the entire idea of maintaining a heritage and culture at the cost of actual lives and practical concerns ludicrous.

Literally who cares if your poorly defined genetic archetype and flexible set of traditions eventually only appears in history books. It was replaceable and unimportant in the first place.

It really depends. I think culture per se is an important thing. Like genetic variation is needed to keep a species evolving, cultural differences are needed to do the exact same with human social life.
Every person should have the right to lay down their life for their culture should they want to, but as soon as someone decides other people should die for their culture, all this goes ass-upwards.

I'm sorry for you anon. Did you at least get in on the makeup gifting? I hope it doesn't discourage you from participating in the future. Last year was the best /ss/ I've had yet, mostly because I got paired with another SnW fan who really knocked it out of the park with their gifts.

On the off chance my santa is here, thanks again for everything!

>Well, at least you got the English part on your side. Airports, train stations and the main touristic locations probably have someone with a decent understanding of the language.
Don't get ahead of ourselves you're talking about Spain here.
We're terrible when it comes to languages, don't expect people capable of comprehending more than basic English anywhere outside of airports and turist hotspots.

Most young people do speak english with some degree of fluency, at least over here in the basque country. Cuenca might be a different story, though.

Would it be frowned upon to take the soldier drawing and cut it out from the wall and frame it because I would genuinely give it a good home or would it be like robbing a soldier of his final resting place before passing onto the next life?
>>
>>146780526
>I've been going to Spain since I was about three years old but I only realized this decade your country has quite a few pilgrimage places, considered going to the locations from Nasu: Summer in Andalusia since it is not that far from where my holiday home is and I was wondering if it was worth visiting the Mazinger statue, Spain seem to love Go Nagai for some specific reason. Even in the little barony I go too to relax there's even a Mazinger mural in one of the bars.

Mazinger Z was a huge hit in Spain back in the 70s, because back then there was a single TV channel in Spain, and because they had never seen anything like that before, it caused a huge impact at the time. It needs to be said that the series had some parts censored, and it was only broadcasted once due to heavy social pressure. 15 years had to pass before it was broadcasted again.

The Mazinger statue in Spain was built to promote some new urbanization they were building at the time. I´ve never been there, but i guess it´s worth a look in you are in the area.

Spaniards don´t really know who Go Nagai is, and they would shit bricks it they saw the rest of his works, stuff like devilman or some of his darker series. Even some of the Mazinger secuels would be considered too inapropiate.
>>
>>146791053
I'd certainly frown upon you for that. It's almost faded into non-existence though, you wouldn't be able to remove it.

Well, would have been considered inappropriate at the time they were created. nowadays the country isn't as seeped in national-catholicism as when mazinger first aired, selecta vision imports all kinds of weird shit anime without no backlash. It's just that spanish normies no longer care about anime, it died out sometime in the early to mid 2000s and now it's confined to the internet and conventions and such.

at the risk of derailing the thread, simply mention that I've found people knowing about Go Nagai (not Mazinger, I mean Go Nagai) in the fucking Bierzo this very summer. I was surprised to notice more people than expected knows about Go Nagai - I thought Miyazaki (Heidi - Spain's biggest anime hit fucking EVER, info for the non-spaniards here) would be better known.

No Satan.
Pre-war the Brits and French expected gas attacks. They went about making gas masks and printing fliers and doing newsreels for civilians to teach how to attempt to survive a gas attack on your home turf. It was a big deal and a lot of prep work went into it in Britain.

In the end Uncle Adolf was a WWI vet, and he refused to use gas on combatants or civilians or even to produce it at the industrial level the Brits suspected him of doing.

Unlike the Japs, who gassed the chinks whenever they felt like it.

>Yeah let's just use on Jews. Who gives a fuck about them.
Like most people you're ignoring the millions of Christian Slavs that died in the camps but that's an aside.
The actual point of distinction being that this was bought off the private market, nowhere near the industrial war machine levels the Allies were very afraid of pre-war. Obviously the amount of gas one needs in open warfare in open places is quite different from what one needs in an enclosed space purpose built for it.
