I'm hyped for the upcoming fights in this arc. A lot of the fights in Dressrosa were boring, but so far in Totto Land Sanji vs Judge and Luffy vs Cracker have been amazing for introductory fights. I really hope that the rest of the crew also gets good ones, I'm tired of them not being important, even if fights aren't the only important thing.

Also, I wonder what happened to the fourth Sweet Commander. I doubt he's dead, so I hope he joined Urouge or something.

Am I the only one that feels like Fishman Island through Dressrosa were mostly padding and preparation which is why the side villains and Hody felt so superfluous? I seriously feel like from Zou the manga has felt like it entered the arcs that Oda's been preparing for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised if Cracker or Jack were designed a long time ago to make the Yonkou crews live up to the hype, while I feel like most of Doffy's crew was him improvising to make the arc bigger and Doffy more of a threat.

All mangaka steal from each other. If you read more than one manga in a genre, you'd notice it. Mashima is just so blatant and consistent about it.

Actually, you could say all artists lift stuff from one another. The only people who pretend to be wholly original are pretentious faggots no one cares about anyway. The real problem is when you steal someone's idea and then use it to make garbage, which is what Mashima does.

I read Fairy Tail for over 3 years and never complained about stolen gags or character designs (except that woman who looks like Kuma, that was seriously too far). What pissed me off is how fucking nonsensical and unsatisfying every story is. I still get PTSD thinking about the conclusion of the Oracion Seis arc. Shanks' true power level will be left a mystery until his part of the story comes. They won't waste time showing him wreck weak characters, that wouldn't be enough.

It has to be on par with Whitebeard's showcase in Marineford, after all he was an old man, Shanks is the next generation, he's on his prime and should be everything Roger was on his time. I expect to see him fight Sakazuki and the three admirals or Kaidou and Big Mom, or the entire Gorosei without breaking a sweat. If he doesn't do that he won't live up to the hype.

He most definitely can, this is the man who stopped Kaidou from going to Marineford and stopped Akainu almost effortlessly. He stopped the war by just being there. He is known to be a regular sparring partner of Mihawk too, the best fucking swordsman in the world, and Shanks doesn't call himself a swordsman even if he uses a sword.

Oda has really been treating Sanji like Yamcha lately. It could be that the purpose of this arc is to give Sanji a power-up and the jobbing was to make it justified.

That said, he made Doflamingo a little scared and even Luffy didn't beat Doflamingo 1-on-1. I think the "manga evidence" against Sanji is kinda' ignoring the big picture.

Also, Marines won't be until both Big Mom and Kaidou are down, and people who think that's happening soon are delusional. This arc is not about fighting Big Mom, and Wano is not about fighting Kaidou.

Dunno why, but One Piece feels so weak now.

Compare this chapter with past ones. Blueno had the same role Cracker has, smaller even, but his fight felt much more significant.
Blueno was merely an operative preceding the arc's boss and Cracker is much more powerful as a direct top dog of a Yonko, but he still feels bland.

I think it's a matter of narrative. Characters aren't getting built properly, progression isn't engaging. Too many characters, islands are crazier but not believable enough IN THE CONTEXT (capped so dumbasses don't undertand it as a complain of lack of realism). In the example, Blueno had some backstory, he was more fleshed out while Cracker is just some generic bloodthirsty Caesar's clone who's Mom's kid.

The difference is the scope and pacing.

At W9/EL part of the story it still felt like the strawhats are getting into random adventures.
Now stakes are much higher since this is near the endgame and Luffy is taking on the big dogs.

Also CP9 was built up considerably before finally reaching a point where the strawhats had to fight them directly.

My problem is every chapter I feel like I'm flooded with information and it isn't, on the page, paced in an emotionally evocative way. It feels less like reading a book and more like reading a Wikipedia article. I've felt this way since the latter half of Thriller Bark. I still love the series and I'm starting to feel nostalgic for new-ish moments, so it's not like it's all bad, but when I'm reading it in the moment it just feels like an information dump.

Well, but I liked Impel Down. And Sabaody. I didn't like Thriller Bark or Marineford so much. People always talk about "Marineford babies" and it's so strange to me, because when that arc was going on, most people in the community didn't really like it. It was just a long series of "X goes to attack Y, but Z intervenes!!" and once a month Luffy would scream, do something no one thinks he should be able to do, and then resume running to Ace. To be fair, it was full of hype moments, and I felt both Ace's and Whitebeard's deaths, but the entire arc on a whole wasn't very entertaining.

I just feel like the Straw Hats got to the New World and now they're just fucking IN IT. There's not a lot of feelings of adventure or little touching moments. It all feels like too much. And why have the Straw Hats split up when you're just going to give them 3-30 allies anyways? I'd much rather have genuine Straw Hat-on-Straw Hat moments, like they're a pirate crew.

I actually don't think Hawkins's is, either. It fits thematically, he's like a mystical gypsy man. But consider reading the fortune of some fodder. If the fodder has the shadow of death on him, does that mean he's a bad choice for a voodoo doll? What if he dies before his doll is used? Does his death flag possibly indicate harm coming your way? So say you read your own fortune and see bad shit in your future. Isn't the prediction of potentially everyone you meet compromised since you have the ability to use them to mitigate damage? Isn't it better to just not read people's fortunes when you have an ability that allows you to control other people's fate? He also has a sword of some kind, which has overlapping martial potential with his scarecrow claws.

Capone's fruit makes sense mechanically, and I know what it's referencing, but it doesn't fit thematically. He's an American mobster and his body's a medieval European castle.

Absalom didn't like the way he looked. Got an invisibility fruit. I guess that's good for being a pervert, but he's still ugly. He had to have Hogback modify him into being a half-beast - something literally every Zoan would've given him. Also consider all the fruits that allow you to change your appearance.

Buggy's fruit doesn't make sense thematically, and the one thing he wanted was to find treasure at the bottom of the sea, something some Devil Fruits might help with, but not most, and not his.

Don't get me wrong, I like OP but it's hard to take the final villains seriously when they're like pic related. Bleach/Naruto did this much better than OnePiece where the final villains were always shown to be larger than life. Aizen, Madara and Yhwach were much more fear imposing and all in all- better villains.

In OnePiece it's just not the same. I'd say if Oda managed to change that it'd be great.

Big Mom was an interesting twist of a character but still holds that creepy potential monster of a person feel she gave at first mention despite seeming silly now. Kaido however should have stayed in the shadows for a bit longer. Revealing all the remaning yonkou and the conflicts so quickly just shows how quickly this shit is going to go by.
