DR1 cast needed it more to be honest. Pretty much all of the DR2 cast atleast had good FTEs that explored their characterization, whereas around half of the DR1 cast didn't even get that (with many DR1 FTEs pretty much just being the same sorta thing you got from their main game dialogue anyway and added nothing of value to them as characters) and are extremely fucking shallow by comparison. That and those characters being "the embodiments of hope" is frankly way, way more unbelievable than the DR2 cast being a bunch of super-criminals and is in more need of being addressed (granted everyone in DR3 seems to be giving Makoto sole credit of being the embodiment of Hope now, which is sorta shit in itself really)

Has nothing to do with "muh DR1 vs DR2" nonsense that people keep making it out to be even.

Now how will this remove Chisa from the equation? She gets captured by Mukuro and tortured into despair, or she quits being a teacher to fully focus on stopping this menace with Juzo / Munakata. Nagito gets taken to a hospital to recover and when he comes to the world has already fallen into despair.

If you're adding things that aren't in the character that's written by the author you are creating an OC with character traits that aren't in the character. So what you've done is adding a trait to a character to create an OC and then call that OC a waifu. The real Junko Enoshima isn't the one you have as a waifu, the one you have as a waifu is an altered OC based on Junko Enoshima.

Which is wtf if you ask me.

Define 'love'. She is human, and the magazine stated she had feelings for Hinata. She trusted him and liked him for his kindness, and helping.
How is that any different from a 'normal' person falling in love with someone? You don't really even need a reason to fall in love, but loving someone for their kindness is common, and why Mikan was so fond of Hinata.

If one is considering getting into a relationship with someone who has a rough background, they should know there will be difficult tasks down the road.
Only someone stupid would try to take advantage, or be unable to see that she may not actually want to do said thing, but is just doing it "so you don't hate her" or other effects of her trauma.

Just being by her side would be enough to help her with patience and build up her confidence. Who said anyone would try to force things?
Even in the Island Mode, Hinata is aware and therefore promises her something in the future to keep her at ease and to express that he is serious.

Nah, Kamukura is Hinata.
The scientists doing the project had a hard time erasing his personality and it's been implied they couldn't do it properly.
Hinata feels worthless because he has no talent. Kamukura thinks of talentless people as worthless. It's Hinata's complex taken to the extreme. He has conceal his insecurity with talent.
In the AE epilogue he destroys the Monokuma heads and Junko is surprised he can still feel that way. Then she proceeds to tell him that the next time they meet he'll most likely have a different "outward appearance".
So while inside the game she says that Kamukura is completely different from Hinata to manipulate him into rejecting the forced shutdown she only talks about a different appearance when talking to Kamukura personally.
In the SDR2 finale Junko recognises Kamukura and goes "Kamukuraaa". With his memories back Hinata decides to live on as Hinata Hajime. The fact that he intended to use Junko from the start to get his memories back itself is proof of Kamukura being Hinata.

I'm not talking about the "hope", Makoto's just a dull character interaction-wise, see DR3 where pretty much every scene involving him has been the same (and Kyoko managing just fine as a character without him around)

If we're talking about other characters to interact with, why stick them with the most boring ones that the entirely story revolves too hard around as it is?

Is there really anything DR1 did better than DR2?

DR2 just overall had better mystery to it. The cases were better, and the overall mystery (reason for the killing game vs secret of jabberwock) was so much better. And hopeman's shenanigans can't really be topped by anything in DR1.

People say they like the setting's atmosphere in DR1 more. There's a big difference in being trapped in a claustrophobic school, and a massive, open, tropical island. I personally prefer SDR2's setting but only because I'm a sucker for tropical settings to begin with.

All I can really think of was Junko was more fun in the first game

I'm not sure if it's talentless people in general he hates. In ch0, he says that he hates normal people who try to drag down the talented people. You could still make the argument that this is Hijime surfacing since he felt that he himself would bring down Chiaki, and he disapproved of Natsumi messing with Mahiru. He doesn't want the talented people to stop "evolving." He clearly knows about being Hajime before the operations, but he still doesn't have a firm grasp on his emotions.

I don't know if I can define love for you, but I can identify one aspect about Mikan that makes her unable to give herself completely in love to someone in her present state, and that is trust. Love requires trust, and Mikan cannot fully trust in her present state; therefore she cannot love in the way I'm saying.

You say in some magazine she had feelings for Hajime, that she trusted him. Assuming it is real, it goes against her character to feel that way (as she was bullied and tormented growing up, and just because Hajime spent some time with her, she's fixed all of her trust problems? That's not how it works in real life, perhaps that's how it works in game though.)

Love requires trust, almost to the point of willing to be tamed and controlled by the other person. This is shown through the ceremonies that people go through. People in love are willing to give up their time to talk about things that hurt them, people in love are willing to give up some of their habits and interests in respect for another person. It is the difference between simple contact, which I believe Hajime and Mikan went through, and taming. Simple contact is I talk to someone and make her feel welcome and then go about my day, but I don't spend time doing the hard labour of love, which includes making the tough decision of divulging all insecurities about yourself, of truly opening up yourself like an unhealed wound, and then expecting the person to love you still.

Someone like Mikan has definite trust issues. I know for sure this is discussed in DR2, and I don't think five simple afternoons with her (most of the time she's not even saying anything intelligible) is enough to get her to trust you. It takes time and tears for someone like that to truly trust again, and it makes sense. If you're bullied for ten+ years of you life, you can't be expected to then fully trust in another human being in the span of a few afternoons, but after years and years of work.
