I was a little older when 2011 adaptation came out but I was still entertained, the animation style was a little surprising for me but it grew on me, Yorknew arc was really good too, well rounded story but it takes time.

Kings are supposed to mate with a female from another species, and that female would birth a new ant queen (that female wouldn't become the ant queen).

We don't really know the specifics of the selection and how the chosen humans were being turned into ants. It's implied it's mostly Pouf's work, not Meruem. It's not an actual form of reproduction for the species.

You need to read it instead of watching it. Both versions tend to skimp down on the content and violence. But the 1999 version looks great, the old look of it really aged well. So far, I haven't seen anything as impressive as pic related in the 2011 anime. The music is also vastly superior.

If you watch something you absolutely hate for 75 episodes waiting to start enjoying it, you're just a fucking moron. If you're enjoying something but not really understanding the hype/praise/popularity by ep 75, it's reasonable for people to recommend waiting for later episodes.

OP is obviously the former and somehow can't comprehend the fact that not everyone will like the same shit, but it's true that a majority of praise for HxH comes from the end of the CA arc. Gintama is another series where it takes that many episodes to understand why people love it so much.

Go wasn't really special, but it was really just Nobunanga wanting him to join because he was like Uvo. Gon was a damsel for a decent portion of the last part of that arc.

Even in Greed Island, Gon only beats Genthru because of Biscuit and Killua's plan.

Gon is special, if he wasn't his story wouldn't be worth telling. But he's not a Gary Stu, especially not compared to most battle shounen MCs. He loses on a more consistent basis, is significantly underpowered compared to his peers and the antagonists, gets written as a secondary character in multiple arcs, and has genuinely flawed traits and unlikable behaviour.

Yorkshin arc is fantastic. Only the more climatic moments of the Chimera Ant arc match it.

That was the fucking point. They were extremely powerful so Togashi focused on exploring their mental and situational handicaps as opposed to just a big battle that everyone would have seen coming? Do you think that Togashi couldn't have brought in a host stronger characters like Ging to deal with the RG or have simply made them weaker? That's literally the most textbook thing anyone would do with the characters and that situation. You'd get your traditional fight with traditional storytelling, but in return you'd get a much more unremarkable arc that would ultimately serve to be a waste of time and a generic fight fest.

Kishi's art is pretty good, he makes his shit on time, isn't afraid to use assistants, but is a shitty writer, and can't into fight layout to save his life.

Ideally they'd co-op designs, Togashi would write and do layouts and Kishi would handle the art.
