Well for one thing, it wasn't KyoAni's idea. This is an adaptation job and that means KyoAni is getting paid to make this film. The author and the publisher of the manga are the ones who sponsored the film, so it's not like KyoAni is going to take a loss even if the film didn't make money.

I'm rather disappointed with Kyoani going with their standard style for the look of the movie. Everything's too soft and pretty, the manga manages to look nice but also has a certain rough charm to it with the linework. Kyoani failed to capture that, in my opinion. They're just sticking bloom and blurs on everything. I don't think it suits the theme of the story very well, especially not the bullying scenes.

Nothing against Nishiya but I'm never a fan of his detailed character design in Free! and Koe no Katachi. They're too illustration-oriented for me.
Nichijou and Haruhi-chan are great because of their looseness and range of expression.

Horiguchi's style, while obviously moe bishojou, still have that loose expressiveness that you'd see from artists like Sushio, Yoshinari and other action animators.
It looks relatively detailed but still have a great line economy.

Basically yes. The event will be held nationwide on every public school staring from elementary school to senior high. Basically the theme revolves around 'the courage to defend the bullied' which falls nicely in line with MEXT's goals of preventing bullying and suicides that result from said bullying.

There'll probably be screenings at some schools, too, since the posters are only the first part of the collaboration. Kyoani just got themselves a really powerful backer.
