I feel like I'm enjoying this arc more than I'll enjoy Wano. The Charlotte Family is so bizarre and the Vinsmokes are a really cool twist for Sanji, and the premise of crashing a wedding is fun. Meanwhile Wano seems too typical Shonen for Oda and another Beat Up Everyone War arc that Oda seems to be increasingly fond of.

Keep in mind Sengoku and Garp were in their fucking 70s during Marineford. It'd be a totally different story if Sengoku was 20 years younger though, and I doubt Xusasu could have stayed awake in that case. But having a title 'the Buddha' doesn't exactly scream powerful, rather smart or enlightened, meaning he's always been about brains not brawn. Shame in the world of One Piece, there's no such thing as real brains, just a different category of power levels. Even Yang Wenli's semicircle spam is more legit.

In the eyes of the World Government, Doflamingo was untouchable. Fujitora can't just attack a Shichibukai 'cause they're being a dick; the World Government protects them from shit like that. Also, what's more likely to bring about change: a Marine apprehending a crooked Shichibukai or a group of random people including wanted pirates banding together to take out a crooked Shichibukai?

Their efforts put a spotlight on how broken the system is, which is what Fujitora wanted. So, instead of risking the wrath of the World Government by apprehending Doflamingo himself and creating a familiar headline that won't do much, he tried to help the civilians suffer the rebellion and then apologized to them that the World Government let this go on like it did, and purposely having it broadcast as well so the World Government can't cover it up.

It was the perfect plan.

Honestly, I thought Oda was doing it intentionally. There were a lot of details in Dressrosa that sounded like Oda was possibly calling out Mashima, and I know Mashima retorted by having pirates show up in Fairy Tail and calling the heroes out on stealing from them.

It made me think: at what point does parody just become you making the same follies? Then Dressrosa lasted another lifetime and I didn't care anymore, I just wanted it to end.

In retrospect, its kind of disappointing how Doflamingo was barely a match for Gear 4th Luffy yet some Yonko's scrub can put up a decent fight (ok top 4 commanders but still..)

I wouldn't say that. But I would say that Oda's artstyle has changed in that the characters aren't as skinny or long-legged as they once were. Fairy Tail's characters nowadays have physical proportions that resemble normal people (the biggest exaggeration is that 90% of the girls are /thicc/) whereas Oda has shifted towards normal proportions in some of the main crew (Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji) but still keeps many of the wonderfully outlandish proportions similar to that in early OP

4 is kind of a batter 2 as it is. Minor down side, but most of it's positives. We've hit the limit of body parts to augment and we're at the point where it's just pile it all together at once for OHKO/last ditch. So I'd guess we'll have a 4+3 type deal down the road that will just knock Luffy out (and preferably, cause him some lasting harm). He's fundamentally a 'hit harder and faster' fighter, not much room to go from here.

Reasonable way to see it, but in a world with precog, farsight etc. The viewer needs to know when those kinds of things are going on. A way to demonstrate that someone is trying their best to acknowledge (precog) what's coming, but simply unable to keep pace. It's reasonable that anyone whose spent their light fighting can read the signs of motion in a persons body before they execute the move.

As the series goes on you'll be wondering why characters are not reacting or noticing things in time. We saw ussop basically see through walls demonstrating the 'locate someone on island' skill from enel and monster trio after TS. Why isn't this spammed? Does it require having met the individual to know what to look for? Is this why during a fight you can really only precog against the opponent in-front of you? And only if they're slow enough.

Obviously CoO isn't just precognition, it's also the ability to "hear" people. It's really two different techniques, just like CoA is separated into hardening and Devil Fruit-bitch slapping. It's possible the ability to "hear" people is something you can actively enhance, but the precognition looks to be an instinctual sense and not something you "use," but something you "have."

I also agree part of it's basically just a gigantic protection racket and desire to not loose power. Like on the kizaru note, he could have teleported around the battlefield and shot lazers in everyone head. We know he can pierce bodies, we know he can move at speeds that most non officer/ranked crew members simply cannot respond to. He could have whittled the numbers down by 90%, then finished off what's left in tandem with akainu.

If you view it from the 'don't kill everyone, we still need many alive' perspective it works. But it's not like killing off just WBs friends would have ruined the need for the protection racket, so this doesn't work. So you're really just left with a character who is powerful enough to end most fights on their own (he even got the go ahead to go fight, they made no explicit commands NOT to kill all the pirates) and doesn't because bad writing.

Chapter 233: Whitebeard and Shanks's meeting is set up. This meeting doesn't take place until after Enies Lobby, but is when Shanks knocks out all the mooks in Whitebeard's crew, and he complains about him using his "haki" so freely.

Chapter 234: Blackbeard remarks that he's surprised Luffy has such a high bounty when his, you guess it, "haki" is so weak.

I'd agree except for two things.

1. Why the double arrows? They're all near each other in power. Akainu tore off Whitebeard's fucking face, and Marco and Jozu only lost when they got distracted and ganged up on. There's not giant gaps between them.

2. "Shichibukai" is not a tier. Mihawk is probably Admiral level, Doflamingo maybe Yonkou Commander level, most of the others are right above Vice Admiral with Old Man Garp and Old Man Sengoku.

Luffy doesn't need to win against BM's crew. It would be absurd if he won against a Yonko with just a few weak members of his crew + 2 minks. Germa are going to be the main villains, and this is the equivalent of Water 7.

I think Mihawk's strong, too, but it's hard to call him Yonkou level. He seemed disappointed in himself when he tried to cut Whitebeard and Jozu deflected it. Then got tied up with Vista.

If he's Yonkou level, he has not shown it, at all.
