Is the main reason that everyone here hates part 3 simply overexposure to it and how much it's pushed as the quintessential JoJo experience?

I dunno, while I'm the first to admit it did a lot of things pretty poorly (the tarot theme led to a lot of boring and forgettable fights, Kakyoin and Avdol might as well have been one-episode characters) it did some other stuff pretty damn right, too. You can tell when Araki had a real epiphany about stands and they start getting much more interesting, nearly everything in Egypt onwards was great.

And I'm a sucker for the roadtrip feel, while DIU is largely written better it didn't have the same sense of adventure and wonder that SDC and all its scene-changes and scenes of culture-shock did.

My favorite part is 5 because it's the best from Stardust - adventure, brutal killings and the best from 4 - focus on side characters and interactions between people.

As it stands, I find both 3 and 4 just fine. 2 is my favorite in anime form, though. And I really liked 7.
