Right now they don't know much about Ebisu and her past, except she's not a scub sorcerer. She is in no condition to speak with older acquaintances and on top of that, Fujita has a really big crush on her.

Yeah, make sense. Fujita looked after Ebisu for a while, and she's likely the only one who showed that she cares for him (this happens after they went to play baseball in hole, right?). No wonder he developed feeling for her

They both give their contribute in a significant way to the story. That being said in the databook Ebisu is described as "En's family comic relief", even if it's just poking fun at itself.
