HxH is essentially just a very good shonen for the first half of the show/story but once it gets to the chimera ant arc personally I think it becomes genius. A very large jump in quality.

Ive been enjoying it but i just hit the greed island arc and its making me want to drop the show. Ill probably skip it since all of you are saying that the next arc is the best part of the series.

But it's also understandable that most themes and genre int he "shonen" spectrum or demographic in manga fall under the same guise
It's battle or comedy or sports or gag, the themes are usually superficial or simple enough for children to understand
Since it is marketed to kids doesn't it make sense that they all share similar traits that make manga appealing to kids, and that includes power levels (this applies to sports manga too), tournament arcs, battle systems, and a forced heroine role
When people say shonen shit they are talking about the tropes that encompass all the dumb shit that's ever been shown in shonen manga, most of the time being manga from Shonen Jump because it's the most popular shonen magazine
