The main three have above average iq and they witnessed Connie who they consider a little sister dead in a pool of blood being pickled into a jar for later consumption, because that loving mother figure has been raising them as cattle for their whole lives. Not only that but in chapter 3 it shows how betrayed they felt when she continued to put up a facade about Connie when they asked her how she thought Connie was doing, even though they both know she's dead and not a single bit of distress on her face. They want to escape from her so they don't get eaten which is understandable it's not like they plan to butcher her themselves, a couple more chapters they will probably be met with a dilemma where they have to escape or kill her but they'll be betrayed by the good memories they have of her and stay which ends up resulting in their deaths.
