Stand-alone illustrations are a different beast from actual comic pages. There's no real deadline and they don't need to be concurrent with anything coming before and after, unlike the real deal. The vast majority of mangaka are much better artists than their average page would imply (hell, just look at Oda. One piece looks pretty shit, but he's a very experience artist with a lot of skill).

Are you trying to emulate manga art? If you are I'll share a tip: mess with your pen pressure settings in the program you're using. Real pens don't go from 0 to 100 line thickness. It's something you don't notice early on but once you notice it it makes it really hard to look at the stuff you did before. Speaking from experience here.

The art itself is fine, but the problem is that it looks very digital. Like the drawing is competent, but the linework is messy in a bad way and all that chicken scratched reductive shading and mspaint spray tool looks like total shit. Plus some lines are soft mid-tones and some (like the cloaked figure) is full-black. In short, it looks like your 80 year old grandpa is drawing it.

I'm not the other guy who complained about the panelling ITT, but yours has some problems as well, especially in the second page. There could be some panels of that guy's body being slowly smashed to bits, or the various body parts falling around.

The art looks nice, but with big panels like that it doesn't flow very nicely (unless you're doing this for comedic effect, which is probably the case).

Also, the Hero in the second panel looks a bit "pasted-on" in the panel; I'm not sure what's causing it.

I have a story I've always wanted to draw. Instead of writing a story where the main character goes through character development, gains strength and becomes more capable, the mc in my story starts out strong and confident and becomes emotionally weaker over time through a series of unfortunate events. Eventually he becomes suicidal but can't seem to off himself. So he's slowly engulfed in madness. Various stuff happens and the story ends with a literal bang.

I sent in something a few years ago for the Shounen Jump 20th anniversary thing, that accepted submission from North America, Europe and Taiwan.

It was kind of a mess of storyboard and half realized ideas of a cringe worthy story about some anon's MMORPG waifu cross over to real life to protect him from alien world assassins. I don't really have any interest in doing anything in Japan at the moment, simply because I never learnt the language (yet?).

The bigger blank spaces (mostly located near the bottom of the image) are parks and homes for the common people. They're like future versions of the commieblocks, and the design is boring compared to the centre.

Travel would be done using civillian floating "ships", or if you don't want to use those, there are a variety of teleporting crossings (you stand, press a button and you find yourself instantly on the other side on the road).
Teleportation is a recent discovery, and it's only safe when used across 20 meters; any more and there's a 9999/10000 chance you'll lose vital organs.

And the rest (located in the rest of the image) are labs. There are a couple of districts, each with its' own designation, and each with its' own, unique aesthetic.

At the point where most of the lines converge is gonna be a space elevator/tower like the Endymion.

I know how dumb and chuuni everything sounds, but I'll be able to create an aesthetic that would be ENTIRELY mine. I'm so looking forward to bringing this to life.

That couldn't be any more wrong. If that's really your best aspect then focus on it, it's totally possible to make good pages with little pen details but lots of color work.

If anything colored works tends to appeal to more people. Combine it with a neat looking simple art (appealing faces) and you're good art-wise.

I've had ideas for novels/visual novels for years. I'll write out a general outline, and start writing the opening scenes... then I stall out. Everything feels superfluous and suffocating. My jokes feel stupid. My plot twists cliche and stale. I end up taking forever to write a scene to my liking. Then I get frustrated at my lack of progress because I suck at gauging the time it should take me to complete something. It's like I spend six hours on this shit and have only a few pages to show for it because I keep fucking scraping everything I write initially.

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me. I feel like every good writer should have an inner critic/perfectionist, but I can't seem to get over mine. And it's worse yet because my English professors all raved about how good of a writer I was in highschool/college. One of my professors actually pulled me aside and badgered me to become a tutor and sign up for creative writing classes. This man told me to my face that he only sees students like me once or twice a decade. He told me that I had a gift, but that I was so good at what I did that I tend to get lazy and coast throughout school and never actually applied myself. He told that he believed in me. And I listened to him. But I don't feel like I write that well. I think I just know how to avoid bad writing because I read a bunch of bad fanfiction as a kid. But everyone seems to eat it up. And now, for once in my life, I've been legitimately trying at something, and it's like I've lost my mojo. And I feel like I'm letting everyone down.

So to end off before I rant and blog incessantly, progress on my original work is going shit, OP. To the point that I'd rather write out my insecurities on a fucking anime image board and be called a faggot than face my word processor.

Art wise you've still got lots of room to improve though. Your line weight especially isn't really good, you should finish more properly your lines, it really doesn't work for the mountain of the top right panel, and I find them too thick for the characters. That hatching for the girl hair on the top right doesn't really works either.
Also, for your bubbles you should consider making the lines of those smaller, same for the text, there should be more space inside.

Lastly, no grey shade for again the top right panel seems really lacking compared to the rest, could put a more white one for the background and the girl's hair. different level of grey on a character really gives him more contrast.

It's not ideal, but the archive button is there and I imagine it could be helpful to have more recent (hopefully) much better looking pages be the first thing a new reader sees. Looks nice, I just had to comment on the girl's running poses since they look a bit unnatural. When she says "doesn't look like..." she looks like she's got her whole torso facing to the right and that's pretty impossible when you're running, your body twists a bit but not that much.

And then when she says "serves you right", her left leg is too twisted inwards, and her left arm is too pointed out to the side. I would also bend her right leg a bit in the next frame, straight leg doesn't look like you're running very fast.

And in the bottom panel, the view of her body below the neck should be angled like the reader is looking down, not up, so you shouldn't see the underside of her boobs that much. Running makes you lean forward, her head and shoulders are being looked down on, but her torso is being looked up at.

I'm a teacher myself. I understand where your professor is coming from. And I think I understand you as well. You get kids who are gifted intellectually, but are unfocused and "coast". You probably never needed to make rough drafts of any of your school essays. You probably did what I did in school: write the "final draft" first, then purposefully messed up a copy and claimed it was your rough draft. You were probably clever with your self-sabotaging too, changing words like "our" to "are", showing the teacher that you were really paying attention and weren't just relying on auto correct! And when you wrote your prompts, you didn't write about something you actually cared about. You wrote what you knew the teacher wanted you to write about.

And that's exactly why you are having so much trouble now. You're were to gaming the system. You were to writing for the teacher's sake, not your own. That was your focus. You had a goal to strive for, and you did enough to accomplish it. Only now, there is no one to trick. You're not battling for a grade. You are, quite possibly for the first time in your life, trying to write for your own sake. Of course you would struggle with this; your opponent is yourself this time. Your goals are defined by you now. Nobody is making rules for you. Nobody is giving you a focus.

That is why editing is a thing, by the way. Not for three page essays. The school system tells you that you need to have a draft to catch mistakes. You saw it as a waste of time and acted accordingly. The educational system is to blame here. They make you go through to motions without actually teaching you the fundamental lesson. Simply put, you are always growing mentally in some capacity. So when you write a book or a thesis or anything substantial over the course of a few years, you're going to look back and see so many flaws, in what you so agonizingly made "perfect" at the time. As counterintuitive as it seems, editing is a way to speed up the process of writing in the long term. To go back in time and bring the you from three years ago up to the level of you at the present.

So here is my advice to you: Set goals against yourself. Give yourself focus. Set a daily word limit, and stick with it no matter what, no bullshitting. Even if you're writing garbage that day, hit that word count. I know it's hard, but you must learn to move on writing in a paragraph, scene, chapter. Every time you get stuck, force yourself to keep going, knowing that you will come back to it eventually. Each day is a battle against yourself, against your habits and tendencies to give up. And all you have to do to win is not quit. Don't look at it as only getting "x" amount through a scene. It's always going to take longer than expected, your imagination glosses over all the in between details. You're not going to "catch up" over night either. But if you start now and keep at it, you WILL get there. You just need to not lose to yourself.

I have mountains of old, unfinished "original manga" wasting away on my computer. Have never been able to get past a handful of chapters (though I did manage to get a 4-koma going into chapter 40-something, once).

Depends almost entirely on the artist. Plenty of people use minimal lines to simpy convey where things will be and some are more detailed. I'd say pic related is probably a little more detailed than what's necessary; it should basically just be what you can whip up in at most 30 minutes.

Cool dragon was pretty much the only awesome part. The rest of it, especially the issues he wasn't in, were awful though. Mostly just boring. He didn't give a shit and broke the fourth wall and was entertaining but I'll be fucked if the hero characters didn't bore me to tears on re-reads

So I am planing to make my own manga. I wrote an amazing story and planed out each chapter, down to the storyboards. I wonder, should I get somebody else to draw it for me, or should I put it in hold till my drawing ability gets better ?(im pretty good right now, but I don't think my current drawing style would do my great justice)

Would tell you to keep it in stock until you gets better, but if you really already made the storyboards that you consider amazing then you've got your chances to find an artist willing to work on it, but that won't be easy to find.

The thread is too long and I stopped reading halfway down. I've worked on a few game projects, been in a few development groups, and worked with artists over the years, here is what I can add.

First, alot of people join these things hoping to make their baby, the story/game they've been working on forever. It is the only thing they want to work on and will constantly try to steer development to making their game or their ideas.

Second, people drastically underestimate the work involved on a project particularly if they have to work with other people. Everyone has different creative visions and skill levels and project management is a skill all on its own that is typically missing but probably has more impact on the development than any creative skill.

Third, artists are divas. They have trouble working to a schedule, to anyone else's creative vision, you need to manage their motivation, and these days want to be overcompensated for anything they create (I don't expect artists to just work for "exposure" but its ridiculous that amateurs are expecting professional rates right out the gate.

What I've found is that you need to detach yourself from your work and just make something (Anything!) and see it through to completion. Forget all the nonsense about being connected to your work or readers sensing your passion. No one first drawing is a masterpiece and no one's first game/comic is going to be a masterpiece. Start producing and learning from the process.

As to a group project, you need clear roles and someone clearly in charge of artistic direction even if it is only to tell the artists they have creative control. Often it's consciously surrendering control to the artists will eliminate alot of tension and conflict from the project by removing yourself as an obstacle.

"Soul code" Fantasy meet Sci-fi. Here is an example, Dragonslayer mecha with trained dragon pet.

In the future, the humankind cause an apocalypse on themselves by launching all nuclear warheads at each other but before the missiles could land. Angels and Demons come and stop the missiles. But they are not here to rescure humanity, oh no, with the human decide to kill themselves, gods no longer will watch over them which let the demons and angels to conquer the earth. Which let to earth become a hub world.
The demons want resources because their planet is litterally a wasteland, the angel want the human's faith to turn them into religious slaves, while the human want independant.
After a few hundred years or so, with the power and resources of all 3 factions, earth is populated with elves, dwares, angels, demons, orcs, devils. There is a balance between magic and science, kinda like 40k.

There is no clear black and white moral between 3 factions. The light side or the "Gloriean Union" provide magic, studies of the galaxy, information about the gods and advanced technology such as Hard light, floating city, sentient A.I, Teleportation via Satellite, spaceship,..etc

Humans, they are the middle, have the highest population, hybrid with other races count as well, capable of adapting to magic fairly well, can use the dark side and the light side technology, have free religion rules no restrictions.
Also the most violent race of them all, ungrateful and extremely selfish, cause the A.I of the angel to rebel and nearly cause the destruction of earth, again. Provoking and discriminating the demons much more than the angels.
