It's harder to say about what would happen to Guts, given how he is outside the bounds of causality to some degree, and it's also reflected in how as a character he lacks the personality to really anchor himself to anything. Were it not for Casca you can easily imagine him just doing whatever the fuck he wants even if he manages to chill out after that ordeal with the eclipse.

I mean think real hard about how he acts like when he was at the harbor. He was perfectly willing to let Farnese's parents and siblings die and leave with his crew, but that has more to do with him not having put any thought into it and just being a my pace kinda guy. And yet that my pace is exactly what blinds him to so many things. In fact it's the core reason that led him to leave the Hawks the first time. He's just one dense mother fucker, and that hasn't changed much even when he's trying to.
