Though to be honest if they just left out that final twist/sequel hook involving that cow chick it would've been fine. Semi-typical group of RPG characters got caught up in a dumb locked room mystery before they go off to slay the big dumb evil demon lord thing.

Actually reading up to Volume 4, and finding out how we got 8/6 Braves, I'm rather satisfied with the explanation. It should be treated as a mystery show rather than a "yuusha vs maou" setting, as that is exactly author's intention. Real Spoiler: Season 2's "Mystery" would be forced on us by showing a character die, then leaving us to guess on the murderer's intention for doing so.

Most things are fleshed out and expanded upon, and although it's almost been a year since I last read it, I don't remember too many gaping plotholes aside from Golcuck's machina helmet. Rather, there's almost never a wasted moment.

There is a meta plot that acts as a explainder for the show and motivation for the characters but in essence, you'll just get the murder mystery subplot that stretches out 8episodes.
