Just finished watching this and it was pretty fucking good. But a few questions.

Why are there zero women in this anime? Why is S2 ost always worse than S1? Is there a better narrator in anime?

And I fucking hate Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but I can never skip their openings.
>>
Women don't like to gamble. both osts are pretty gud. No.

I also just finished watching and the only thing I don't get is why the black suits allowed kaiji to literally rip the stars off of those other 2 "friends" of his. Also Why was Kaiji retarded enough to not expect something when Hyoudou kept his hand in the box longer.

btw, thanks 4chan, you're really a giant piece of turd, archiving MY thread of Kaiji. Like seriously, what the fuck was the problem? It had replies, correct section and everything. btw, kaiji best anime. It's good for hundred of reasons, there isn't the need to list them.

I think it was pretty well explained, even though I disagreed with it.
>>
>>146295759
>Why are there zero women in this anime?
Because it would dillute the message of the anime. This is a pure "manime" it focuses on hyperagency, focusing on what one can do by themselves to achieve what they want, which is a masculine trait. Everyone is ugly too for purity of essence. That or the mangaka can't draw women ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seriously though, I absolutely praise the fact it has no women and would hope more people have the balls to believe their work is good enough to not need fanservice. I do love fanservice but BALLS man!

QUESTION: I started reading the manga (the one where he's on the rock paper scissors ship, that's the first one right?) and it was ok but not that great. Should I watch the anime instead? Does the manga get better?
>>
>>146299203
Anime is pretty much the same
>>
>>146299121
It's okay. I remember it by thinking a dress shirt is white, and people in offices wear shirts, and the working class guy could be wearing a blue jumpsuit, and remember it that way.
>>
>>146299203
It depends on what you are to. If music and movement is more you then the anime might be a better fit.
>>
>>146299203
IMHO watch the anime then continue with the manga where the anime left off. That's what I did.
>>
Most of the time girls in anime are just eye candy or used for forced romance, or given super powers to be able to keep up with men, but kaiji isn't a super power battle anime so they really had no place.

Andou and Furuhata are beautiful angels who did nothing wrong.

Gambling houses invented IOU's, some stock market techniques and in general did a lot of the mathematical groundwork for statistical modeling.
>>
>>146300076
>I'm scared
I found the scene where he gets needles driven under his nails in season 2 a lot worse.
>>
>>146300033

You miss the point of Kaiji. He is a one step forward, two steps back man. Every time he wins, he turns around to fail even harder, only to need a bigger more miraculous win to escape the consequences, only to fail even more spectacularly. When he loses he loses and when he wins he still loses. If he wins a dollar, he loses ten the next roll. He can tilt an entire fucking building, and the next day will still be a penniless greaser.
>>
>>146301109
Also poker was the first game made from the bottom up with a mathematical basis. The hand rankings were ordered by the odds to get them, etc. Chess and like all games before it were just made intuitively but poker was the first game to have mathematical proof that it is balanced.
>>
>>146301207
>"Why does this happen to me!?"
keked audibly
>>
>>146301273
Do rules like wild cards make it unbalanced?
>>
>>146301204
jesus fucking christ
>>
>>146301407
Well it depends on the particular rules. Poker was also unique for the time in that it freely experimented with the rules, unlike chess and such that absolutely refused to change. Wildcards sounds to me like something that would indeed unbalance the game as they would make highly unlikely hands far more likely to get. Getting 4 cards of a royal flush is hard enough, but also getting the 5th is exponentially more unlikely, so having a wildcard instead is very cheaty.

If you're playing home games with custom rules I would suggest not risking much money until you research the particular rules in question and the consequences.

>>146301676
Btw Kazuya is a fucking boss and drops lots of truth bombs. I find myself agreeing with him more often than Kaiji.
>>
>>146301609
What about having face up draw cards? Does this simply change the game within the game (i think I know what they have) or does it also expose the mathematical probabilities?
>>
>>146302204
Yes that wouldn't affect probability, that would only increase the available information. I'm not sure if that would increase or decrease skill edge (whether it makes the game harder or easier) but it wouldn't unbalance it.
>>
What i like most about season one is how Kaiji had already won, got rich to boot, and fucked up big time by betting that amount again to someone far above your league because feels.
He was pushing his luck way too hard.
>>
>>146302963
>got rich to boot,
Wouldn't he have still be in debt? He only won 20 million yen. Wasn't he that much in debt to begin with? And he had promised 10 million to that guys wife as well as the guys he was playing against taking like 7 million or so out for a fee or some shit. Even if he didn't pay the wife, he was still in debt.

>>
I would love a second season of One Outs
>>
>>146303542
Was that it? Tonegawa saying it'd be 40 years before he payed it off always made me think it was a lot higher. Plus I thought Kaiji accumulated an even larger debt from borrowing a large sum during the rock paper scissors arc. I just forgot the numbers.
>>
So who would win between Kaiji and Akagi in these 3 scenarios and why? Both are betting their lives.

>E-card
>Mahjong
>UNO
>>
>>146305106
Akagi is overpowered as fuck, so he would probably win all of 'em. The only hope Kaiji has is convincing Akagi to lose on purpose since Kaiji wants to live and Akagi wants to die (fabulously, meaning Kaiji would at least have to put up a good fight).
>>
>>146305301
I dunno Kaiji is pretty damn OP as well when his life depends on it. It's pretty interesting how they are complete opposites in the sense that Kaiji wins to live whereas Akagi lives to win.

I finished Kaiji about a week ago and wanted to jump into Akagi. But I know fucking nothing about Mahjong so the first 2 episode went over my head. I haven't bothered watching more.
>>
>>146305758
Yeah I feel ya, it all sounds like gibberish. In the end I still haven't learned all the rules despite watching all of Akagi and reading the mahjong part of Kaiji manga.

BUT! (DAGA SHIKASHI!) It is assumed you don't know mahjong and it tries to explain anything that is very relevant, so I did learn more than I ever thought I would and I did enjoy Akagi/Kaiji playing mahjong. Its actually somewhat similar to poker, you get dealt a hand then you draw cards to improve your hand. Just replace cards with rectangles, straights are 3 in a row instead of 5 and instead of making one hand out of 5 cards its like making a combo of 3-5 hands out of 14 rectangles.
>>
>>146306055
Also you don't win money based on how much you bet but your hand strength is worth a set amount.
>>
>>146305758
You should keep watching. I finished Akagi and still don't know shit about mahjong but it was fun. I just looked at it like poker/dominoes hybrid game. I don't know what the hands should be, but I can understand building a hand and waiting for a specific tile.
>>
>>146298689

You know he's also voiced by Akagi right? Akagi, Kaiji, and Toa all have the same seiyuu.
>>
>>146300195
But that would mean your classmates are jews, so what would you care?
>>
>>146306261
>>146306055
I might just watch it anyway then since it does look sort of similar to poker. So maybe if I just go through with that mindset I'll enjoy it. I've kind of been on a binge with these psychological/thriller series of late and again, even though I know nothing about baseball I might also try watching One Outs.
>>
>>146305758
I finished watching Akagi just a little while ago, and while I think I understand the basics of the game now (4 tiles of each suit=good) the majority of it still flies right over my head. Just enjoy if for the mind games and over the top reaction faces.
>>
>>146306688
Don't worry, baseball is a lot easier to understand than Mahjong.
>>
>>146306688
I knew nothing of baseball either, and Japanese baseball seems even more convoluted, but I did also enjoy One Outs.
