Genuinely curious. I tried to get into this show but dropped it 10 minutes in. The guy speaks way too fuckin fast so you can't even take your eyes off the subtitles and if I wanted to just read I would just grab a book. Does it get better further in because I can't be bothered to constantly pause the show just to keep up with the guys speech. Wouldn't be so bad if there was a dub

OP here, first is definitely the fastest but 2 things that are important, 1) due to the repetitive nature of the show you get what he's saying once he has said it a few times, 2) Don't focus on subtitles as much. If you get the gist of what he's saying you'll be fine. Just sit back and enjoy the journey. You don't need to catch every piece of monologue to "get it."

You almost baited me, but this part gave it away. When pretending to love a widely hated anime, don't act like it's well-loved, that just makes it obvious that you're pretending.

I initially had the same impression, but looking back on it, I think it's more pretentious than enjoyable. It does convey the franticness of trying to find your place in the world during college well, and the art style is unique, but that's about as far as my positive impressions extend. It's the quintessential anime to show to hipsters who don't like anime so they can pretend it's more artistically profound than it is.
