Now that we're starting to see the "Big 3" bow out or fade into irrelevance, what do you think will fill the gap amongst younger/less sophisticated audiences? Will we see the rise of other long form series, or was the rise of these long running, popular series coincidental and the vacuum will more likely be filled by flavour of the season shows, like Attack on Titan or Boku no Hero Academia?

Flavour of the season, I think. People will buy into whatever's got internet hype.
>>

One Piece is obviously the exception, but I always felt that was the least "Big 3" of the Big 3, if you know what I mean.

>Luffy's in the japanese format

If by "least" you mean "far and away the biggest", you would be right.

Don't judge popularity based on what was big on Toonami when you were in middle school.

Monkey is Luffy's first name secondary

Liked by fewer autistic 14 year old cunts than Naruto is what I meant, anon.
>>

Proportionally, of course.

Well of course it is, no one gives a shit about Naruto anymore and Kubo has Kubo'd his western fans away.

And rightfully so.

Are the Big 3 even a recognized group in Japan, or isn't this some bullshit Western fandom made up? Because if you look at sales numbers, One Piece leads everything, with Naruto selling a fourth and Bleach selling a fifth of that.

Big 3 has only ever been a thing in the west.
for japan it has always been One Piece on top and everything else trying to get as close as possible

wonder how nips feel whenever faggots here type "Big 3" for anything outisde of being ironic
>>
>>146229986
>but I always felt that was the least "Big 3" of the Big
This would maybe only apply for the early parts of it's run. This hasn't been true since at least the mid-00s
>>
>>146232604
Big 3 is exclusively a Western thing. Over there it is really just One Piece with Naruto being quite behind it (relatively)
>>
>>146232733
To be fair, if you break it down by sales per volume, Naruto used to gravitate between #3 and #5, after AoT conquered #2.

Bleach on the other hand never seemed to sell that well.
>>
>>146230597
Rightfully

I only started reading a year and half ago, thinking it was just bullshit like the other two
God, it was actually good. Still stereotypical shonen, but pretty good nonetheless
>>
>>146232921
bleach had pretty consistent sales and made jump more money than most other mangas just due to its merchandise

but yeah in terms of popularity and volume sales bleach has never been even in completion with one piece
>>
>>146233141
>>bleach had pretty consistent sales
It notably did not
>>
>>146229625
Though the term was only really used by Westerners, there's not many other WSJ series that can fill the void.
And no, SnK and OPM are not part of WSJ.

BNHA
OPM

that's kinda there
____ is nice, appeals to western audience,
it got dubs really fast, and im sure kids will eat it up
>>
>>146233442
Looked at more stats

Bleach used to be just short of a million copies per volume in 2009 (when it actually was #3 in total and #6 per volume), losing about 70k per year until 550k units now.

Meanwhile One Piece has increased from two to three million per volume. Naruto remained constantly above a million.

Both naruto and bleach are bigger in the west.
>>
>>146234033
Naruto yes, Bleach, that hasn't been true for a long time.
>>
>>146229625
It is a once in a generation changing of the guard, you will find the cycle was the same around the times they were first published with the earlier big three winding down publication and those titles taking their place until this year. So I would be looking towards something say 1-3 years old right now to take the reins for the next ten years plus or so.
>>
>>146234119
There can't be a "new" Big 3 with One Piece still running
>>
>>146229625
There is no big three. It was always One Piece carrying the entirety of SJ on its back. It's just fanboys trying to circlejerk their series by tying their respective successful but ultimately irrelevant series (when compared to One Piece's success) to One Piece itself through some stupid ranking. It's like France or UK saying they're relevant in the world because they have the second/third/whatever largest naval fleet.
>>
>>146234153
One prior Big Three member held on for a bit longer in an earlier Big Three as I recall as well; one is often 'held over' for a couple of years transition time.
