All that's happened is that Aniplex/ACJ has shuffled the staff out of Brain's Base to another one of it's trust studios Shuka to animate this stuff which I'm pretty sure was just set up to handle ACJ-Daisuki affiliated series like Studio 3HZ, Actas, Zero-G etc are since they don't seem to have done anything for any other entity ever.

No it's not the studio and staff that matters but the producers was the point I was trying to make. In the anime industry staff are just placeholders and brand names that answer to the producers demand and act as the face of and publicity for shows since who wants to see some white haired producer whose sole interaction with the production process is when they sign the check that funds it and when they occasional step in to make bad commercially oriented decisions that often drastically affect the course of a show and the outcome of it's cast of characters strictly to serve their own ends.

This is how we go from pretty fitting theme song artists for the first 4 iterations to suddenly here's ol' raspy voice Aimer from all those overhyped action blockbuster type shows that the teenagers love doing the ending which makes no fucking sense whatsoever as an artist choice for this franchise unless you consider it from the angle of it's because she has a new single coming out for Sony and there's probably nowhere else left to plug it but here so here it goes.

Lately they've been on a Lantis and Kadokawa service kick as well as doing some commercials for visual novel and mobage (mainly fujobait in nature since that's the trendy "new market" thing everybody is looking to make money off of at the moment) like every other small time studio that's trying to just scrape by.

Just know that Natori and Reiko don't get too much screentime. Especially Reiko, she only shows up in occasional flashbacks. Most of it is Natsume trying to deal with the problems on his own and he's usually pretty passive.

I will be moderately curious to see how this translates into 2016's industry since it's hard to tell if fujos have moved on to other things and even Aniplex shilling is hardly a guarantee anymore. I could easily see this situation turning into another Durarara type thing.

Commercially it only matters if they're some big otaku director name like Akiyuki Shinbo or Tetsuro Araki but even then not really and there are no guarantees. The Rakugo example is a bit different because that's an extremely rare example of a show getting made by a non-otaku director for not entirely commercially oriented reasons. Ikuhara is also his own weird ass thing as well that's like somewhere inbetween an otaku director with all the weird yuri pandering stuff he loves to cram into his modern work and a guy that fancies himself artistic in how he loves to use the kind of patterning stuff that was influenced by Osamu Dezaki's directoral style that also influenced the likes of Shinbo.

I might also suggest that when it comes to movies directors have a chance at making an impact given some time and budget but that really depends on what kind of movie we're talking about, mainstream stuff like Hosoda's works or again otaku anime like the stuff that comes out of Shaft or A-1.
