Look, I'm the guy he's arguing with and assuming this isn't bait, 90's had their fair share of gems. Slayers had a gaudy style not unlike that picture, for instance, but was great. Similarly, Magic Knight Rayearth. And that's not even taking into heavy hitters account GiTs or Eva or Sailor Moon. The BGC reboot is more remnisicent of early 2000's style then 90's, in my opinion.
