Why is there such a divide between what's acceptable for kids to watch in cartoons in the east vs west?

Series like Shaman King, One Piece and even Pokemon are shown as is in Moon land, but in the west they're heavily censored, and as soon as One Piece got redubbed and unedited, it went from a Saturday morning cartoon to late night [adult swim] anime. Are there any anime that haven't been censored and shown to kids that isn't outright for babies?

Series like Teen Titans, pre Go, and Static Shock had mature themes without hitting PG-13 is there anything even like that in anime?
>>
Aside from cultural differences; laws and time of shows are what made the difference.

I'm sure there's stuff in the west that gets same treatment in the east were not aware of. You never know.
>>
West it's the kind of place that censor guns in cartoons it's necessary at the same time that their parents teach the childrens how to shoot.

Spooky skeltons are illegal in China.
>>
>>146189654
The only thing of I can think of is smoking. Despite the high population of smokers. Will never forget Cromartie and JoJo Part 4's shadow cigarette.

>>146189880
Wait, what?
>>
>>146189993
I don't know the specifics of why they do it, but Western releases in China censor skeletons and the like.

Not actually illegal.
>>
>>146189589
They had fighting on their own turf in ww2.
Pretty sure europeen stuff is also more explicit.
>>
>>146190523
Europe actually takes all the dubs directly from America.
>>
America hates sex and Europe hates violence, so if you try to localize for both at the same time you end up taking everything out.
>>
>>146189993

Depictions of skeletons is considered disgraceful/desecrating the dead, as logically said skeleton would have to be someone's ancestor. China's history of being a largely collectivist culture and placing great importance on ancestral origins has led modern culture to avoid displaying skellies to avoid pissing off the dead.

In a way it's kinda similar to Muslims not being allowed to depict God/divine beings. It implies a transgression of human ideas into the realm of deities, which is seen as taboo.
>>
>>146191522
Huh, interesting. Guess every electric shock scene is banned and Halloween episodes outlawed.
>>
>>146189589
Japan needs to throw its citizen a bone after censoring all the porn.
>>
>>146190624
Factually wrong
Danish dub of DBZ had none of the retarded censorship the US had + was written from the japanese script and not from the US script (key difference being (Over 8000(original japanese) vs Over 9000(american dub))
>>
>>146192882
>one country
Some do take text from the original, but many countries take dubs from America and use the same censorship (for example, pokemon and yugioh were directly taken from 4kids, at least back in the day).
>>
Speak for the USA, we had most series broadcasted daily at noon, without much censor. Not many people were really worried. Ranma1/2 was coming up at 1pm, saw anime titties every day after school. Same with dragon ball and all those sex jokes. Good times.
>>
>>146195134
I don't think the higher ups where really paying attention and moms where likely sitting their kids in front of the TV without paying much mind. I don't know when the age of coddling began, but it hit hard.

I didn't have cable growing up so the only anime I got was from DIC and 4kids.
>>
>>146195134
Ranma never even aired in the US, that's because you live in spicland where shame doesn't exist and sex is the only thing people know how to do.
>1pm

I didnt know Germany was spicland, what is that even, South america? Elementary School finished between 12am to 1pm here. Amusing Muricans and their little bubble, thinking the whole world revolves around them.

Where i am from most grew up with anime, so everyone has some nostalgia and fond memories to it. We were lucky to have it on daily on weekdays.
>>
>>146191522
>as logically said skeleton would have to be someone's ancestor.

So why aren't child skeletons acceptable?
>>
>>146196176
How was it where you were from. School started from 8am to 12.30am-1.30pm, that should be right. After that there was plenty of time to watch anime till about 5pm, if you didnt have any clubs to go to. Which was pretty common except for football.
>>
>>146189993
That's actually in part 3 of jojo's, and it's mainly because jotaro is a schoolkid, despite his appearance. when hol horse, an adult, is depicted smoking, he isn't censored.
>>
>>146196553
You're right, got my numbers mixed.

>>146196424
Depends on the school. Some start at 8-8:35am, I heard some start at 9. Getting out varies as well, usually between 2-4:00pm. 12am though, I think anon meant something else. There's simply no such thing as school starting at midnight and going until 1pm.
>>
>>146190138
>I don't know the specifics of why they do it, but Western releases in China censor skeletons and the like.
Too spooky for them
>>
>>146189589

I would guess history plays a part too, Japan has always been a warring state. I guess a country born from violence will become violent.
>>
>>146192718
No wonder why they got a shitstorm like shimoneta...

A lot of religious stuff got cut out because of programming laws that only Christian themed programming is allowed to use Christian imagery.

It is not inherently a christian thing, but the way a country manages itself.

You jealous?
>>
>>146189589
Its kinda funny actually.
The lower limits of what are acceptable are different. Violence for kids is less acceptable in the west than Japan.

But on the other hand, the upper limits are reversed. Japan comes down harder on higher level violence in more adult products than the US does.

Look at No More Heroes for instance. Japan actually got a censored version of the game compared to the US.
And even though The Last of Us got basically the Japanese equivalent of AO, it was still censored.

Jelous, we made pokemon and yugioh better and relevant, plus kids only care about the toys, not about the writing.

Heck anime is now dead in mexiland anyways.
>>
I wonder what the limit for violence is.
JoJo has black blurs for most of its gore, and the vampires were portrayed as beings of glowing energy. Hokuto no Ken also went through some edits, like the black sillouette for exploding heads and the kids dying being removed.
I wonder where they draw the line
>>
>>146200451
>He Punched him in the face with intent to injure! You can't show that in a kids show
Meanwhile Tom and Jerry has a cat trying to smash a mouse with a sledgehammer or someone picking their nose so hard they pick their brain out.
Lest we not forget the lovely scene from Spongebob where Plankton accidently feeds his customers stomach acid.

Murrikans are weird.
>>
What all was actually censored from Toonami's original DBZ and Sailor Moon broadcasts? because I remember really anything getting censored in the late 90s to very early 2000s. I feel like most of the censorship came later, but America started censoring it's own older content as well like Looney Toons and Tom and Jerry.
>>
>>146200779
Its the difference between cartoonish violence and more realistic violence.

Jerry hitting Tom with a hammer gives him a giant lump on his head and stars flying around his eyes.

Goku punching Freeza in the face gives him a bloodied face.
>>
>>146200779
Tom and Jerry actually did get censored later, but what they censored was the racism.

Terra Formars had censoring so bad that black practically took up 3/4 the screen.

Pretty much this. Simpsons made satire out of it with Itchy and Scratch waaay back when too. Comic Mischief is acceptable, what gets left is the US's hate boner for breasts despite Victoria's Secret and Lover's Lane billboards up everywhere.
