There are very few cases of this.
Manga is the superior form by leaps and bounds desu.

Anime writing was shit and didn't understood the genius of PS humor.

But visually it was quite good, the shading had a rare sense of depth or something with all the implied lights in it. Though again, not contrasted enough to fully honor the manga's parody mood.

A lot of great moments in the manga that happened after the anime has wrapped up. I agree the manga has been dragging lately, doesn't mean all is ruined, I'm just waiting for the battle arc to be over.

What do you think of Kaiji/Akagi's adaptations? Do you think it capture the spirit of the manga? What do you think that they did wrong? Obviously if you read the manga first you will be a bit shaken by the actual good drawings with a weird design, instead of bad drawings with a weird design... But is there anything else that couldn't have been emulated?

On another note, I'm disappointed at the SnK adaptation in terms of mood and creepiness, even if the anime still looks kinda good (despite the really uneven animation quality).

Same for DN from the same director, I had a very hard time at first with his interpretation of the mood (he turned it action-oriented when the manga felt more calm and slow-paced to me). But now I kinda like both, the anime has great additions.

Also I watched Berserk 1997 first and can't get into the manga's mood, the overrefined drawings and all. The anime mood was really special and unique.

I watched Kaiji first, then read the manga from the beginning, and I think the anime is better. The manga was good, and I think I still would have liked it if I read it first, but the anime did a superb job of adapting the story. The pacing and suspense are transferred very well, and the art and music add a lot to the series. However, the bog arc is mediocre in both. I hate it.

I lost interest after they started putting more focus on the older brother and spent forever in Snowville studying herbs. It was around the same time that it was getting passe around scanlation groups too, which didn't help.

I can't attest to story quality because I haven't read it but the art was surely shit. The anime was much better. Being able to hear the music and watch the dancing made it a much better overall experience.

To be fair for David, part 3 and 4 are considerably harder to adapt to an anime simply because of their structure and they suffer from the comparison to the earlier work.
3's a plain old monster of the week manga and 4 has a very loose plot. They can't, without cutting material, move at the same speed as 1 and 2 which had clear plot progressions with different events that could be easily adapted to 20 minute episodes.
That's not to say though that they wouldn't have been fumbling with the overall direction as well.

4-koma in general transitions well. They feel different as anime if done well. It's still comedy but not being in strip form they can apply things like music/sound cues acting and timing, as well as general cinematography and additional shots and content so it isn't just moving from joke to joke.
