Not that I don't enjoy japanese manga RPG pseudoparodies but JESUS it is so hard to find something that doesn't resembles Dragon Quest?

Is that japan can't do Fantasy or its just that it isn't worth because their audience only want this kind of thing?

Wonder how many authors actually have played Dragon Quest beyond the meme tier 1,3, and 5. Judging by the doujins, not a lot.

No wonder they keep rehashing the same shit even though Dragon Quest itself has evolved its formula over the ages.

Japanese fantasy right now is at about that phase that Western fantasy was around 30 years ago, where everything was "inspired" by Tolkien (or D&D, which in turn was also inspired by Tolkien), only their "Lord of the Rings" is Dragon Quest and similar video games.

Give it maybe 10 or so years and you'll start seeing some variety in Fantasy, if it doesn't die out.

Most of this works are fun despite all, but you know...sometimes you want to see something straight something that is not the straight thing but with a tweeeeest.

Specially because if you think on it there are more "deconstructions" "parodies" "twist" or whatever you want to call them than the actual thing.

I mean, there is like one millon works that makes fun about the hero taking down the Demon King, but how many works are about an hero taking the down the Demon King in a serious way?

Time travel is a form of isekai and it shares a lot of story beats with standard isekai.

Don't be stupid, there are ton of original series from Japan, most stuffs being uninspired is something you'll find everywhere.
>>
>>146156480
Subjugator is his and the level 40 something guys class and their class ability is to let them absorb their dead teammates level temporarily. The reason the MC of that manga is level 1 is because he completely overrelies on it and does retarded shit like constantly killing his party to beat absolute nobodies. He says that, although in a less matter of fact way, himself.

So its pretty clear that despite how serious of an image he puts up about sefeating the demon lord, the MC is just a terrible person offing people because he can and does not really care about the demon lord

I'm not saying that's not true. But Japanese society is very much about conforming and not standing out. Which is also why a lot of that really cool unique stuff tends to be pretty niche and rarely becomes popular enough to matter.

Come one, "technically" is not isekai that's true but when you have to say "technically" means that mostly is.

Guy is a powerful warrior that dies and reincarnates into his own young self and first thing he does is going to a treasure he knows to get infinite gold and endgame sword.

I enjoy that manga but if I only had two columns, Isekai and Not Isekai I would definetively put this manga in the isekai column

No, anon, it's not "technically," it just isn't. Isekai literally has nothing to do with time travel, and certainly not with "first thing he does is going to a treasure he knows to get infinite gold and endgame sword." That's a completely different set of cliches that happen to be common in conjunction with current isekai trends. Your argument is just as ridiculous as the people who try to say that something like Hoshi no Samidare is shounen, for example.

They're writing shortcuts, so yeah, they get frequent use for free plot and free social structure in place of actual work. Especially since webnovels became an accepted addition to the front of the Japanese content pipeline, with zero barrier to entry.

The ones who actually understand the formula and use it well are only exploiting it for a faster start of the story, and still do all the traditional worldbuilding work anyway. It's just that the template lets them shift the presentation order slightly.

The ones who are bad but don't know that they're bad use the template, add one twist, and pat themselves on the back for being brilliant deconstructionists.
The ones who are oblivious to the template just follow it blindly.
These two subsets are basically only recoverable if the author happens to be really good at character interaction. Otherwise it continues into rote game mechanic explanations and following the same old path, and you know it's probably safe to stop reading there.

It's basically the same thing as the three episode rule for new anime: because first episodes have gone so formulaic to try to grab eyeballs, you can't fairly start to judge the quality of most shows until they diverge in ep2 (or fail to diverge), and if you don't like the characters by the end of ep3, it's safe to drop it, because very very few shows are going to suddenly get good midseason, and the few that do, you'll catch later just by watching /a/ as usual.

The dumbass upthread is repeatedly trying to jam the big round time travel peg into the little square isekai slot using a story where the time difference is like, four years. Not like modern Earth to year 1250 Earth. Like 2016 to 2012.

He's in his functionally identical body of that time in a functionally identical world of that time.

He's fantasy Okabe.

And he has one object carried through, so there are two of them in the world at the same time, which is an extremely common element of time travel stories and completely irrelevant to isekai stories.

There was a thread on a fantasy manga about some guy who volunteers to take the place of his childhood friend as a sacrifice for a dungeon but turns out she was cucking him with the local chad. Also I think he killed monsters in said dungeon to gain their powers despite being lvl 0 useless shit or something.

Anyone know what that manga was? I can't recall the name at all.

Well if you count the Mc's buffed up shoujo protag Mary sue of a sister.
>Demon continent
More like germany vs the balkans
>Hero
Well if the Hero is an emperor with his harem of dangerous bitches who can easily topple a kingdom or two and have the balls and ability to keep them in check then he is rather different from your typical jap fantasy protags he actually dicks them in the end
>Adventure guild
Ok this one exists.
>>
I don't really see why "Adventurer Guild" is a detriment.

It's like complaining about a government existing in the world, depending on the severity of the monsters/demons/etc there's going to be some sort of group that will attempt to curb them
>>
>>146161039
Probably because Adventurer Guild is typically independent from the government, but usually just as if not stronger and more influential.
>>
>>146141810

How is this any different from any other non-Japanese fantasy work though? All of that shit is standard fantasy tropes. They just call them by some other names.

From what I gather from other people's autism, the complaint is that the adventurer's guild is a privatized system that essentially dictates everything that happens in the vicinity.

What if you have a significant problem, but can't pay to hire adventurers for it? Do you just resign yourself to getting gobbed?

As much as people mock Goblin Slayer for being grim goblin autism, it's being fairly accurate in how poor people get fucked by the ancap nature of adventurer's guilds.

I always thought that these guilds were at least partially government-recognized, but apparently not.

Some of them are.

iirc in overlord there's a separate "adventurer guild" for each country, even though I think they're all connected in some way

I could also just be misremembering htings
>>
>>146156455
>So the story will be pretty much just be about a kittle shit constantly killing his party.

Essentially yeah.
It seems like it largely wants to go the way of Kino's Journey or Cassherns Sins where the MC writes their faggotry across one place and then moves on to the next.

I hope it gets canned. It's not even trainwreck worthy with the guy being so literally retarded that he actually has a moment like this where he breaks down and cries while explaining what the easily solvable problem is. He's just either going to die or ass pull a way to defeat the level √9999 demon lord anyway which for the last will more than likely be executed in a completely unnecessary dickass way

how did red dragon end anyway?

I dropped the trainwreck after the first episode due to how cringy the protagonist is
>>
>>146162697
Like 4 of the characters actually survived, though the main girl that was a cute catgirl sort of died but was reincarnated or something.

I looked it up afterwards and the anime was actually adapted from a D&D session of all things between Urobuchi and a few other big anime people. I think the rest of the campaign was (or at least was going to be) adapted into a manga or something.

Not surprising that he's as edgy in table top games as he is in anime.
>>
I want to see more 'weird' fantasy in manga.

Dark Crystal, Morrowind, Zeno Clash. That kind of thing.
>>
>>146161651
I think the complaint against the standard adventurer guild showing up in every story is that it's, like, a pure game mechanic devoid of connection to the setting. Or the setting in general is gaming meme soup and nothing makes sense in context of the world, because the world is never actually built up. You get dumped into another world, so you go to the guild to get handed quests and money and to have something to rank/faction grind because of course you do. The game cliche stuff IS the setting.

>I always thought that these guilds were at least partially government-recognized
When it's done right, like in >>146160884
it's explained well. Sevens actually has the guild system have an entirely different character and role depending on which country they're in. Like in one place they're really just an arm of the government; in another, they're only really there to cull the local dungeon and turn it into a profit center; in a third, it's an old italian style city state run by the merchant class, and the guild is their military and how they hire out mercs to neighboring countries (and keep them played against each other). The local politics are deeply involved in each case. It helps a lot that the setting takes dungeons and monsters seriously as an existential threat to humanity, too.
