I got through two stages of Initial D but didn't continue again for whatever reason.. need to keep watching

I just finished watching Steins;Gate before starting some Dragon Ball and then go up to episode 40 with that, enjoyed it being light hearted after the SG rollercoaster and then I took on Gurren Lagann after those 40 or so eps so I think I will go back to Dragon ball for now. Plenty of others on the list to watch... girlfriend thought Dragon ball was a bit kiddy though, I don't care because it is light hearted.

I don't think it was so bad because his legacy obviously lives on throughout everyone else in the entire show, even 7 years, 20 years on. His death seemed to be a catalyst for Simon after his moping around to truly understand the power of the spiral.

I must admit though it was hard to watch through those episodes but as soon as they made Gurren Lagann water friendly then it got cool again

idk, after he died the series never was as fun as the first few episodes, with silly shit like kamina dancing to goad rossiu into attacking him or even kamina's initial idea of stealing a gunmen. once he's dead, there's no one all that interesting to focus on either and the cast feels bloated since they reintroduced every minor character from the beginning along with the other gunmen pilots. so basically we lost the best character and got 20 paper thing characters instead, along with a plot that quickly went from fun and light hearted to kind of grim (especially the second half)

Really though, his character at that point was about to get really, really old. The point of Kamina is that for all his bravery, he's a phony. He didn't have the special spark that Simon did, all he had was bravado. Which makes his character admirable in a way, he always threw himself forward into dangerous situations hoping Simon would catch him before he bit the dirt; it's worth noting that the first fight Kamina spends on his own is the one he dies in. But for that same reason he couldn't be the lead for the whole series.
