Despite his tumultuous, empty and never truly experiencing joy and human connection until the series started and STILL chose to reject instrumentality in the end so everyone could be their own person. To reject Instrumentality, an Eternal Bond with everyone with no fear of pain or rejection DESPITE your personel experience. Shinji Ikari is more awesome than we give him credit for.

So you're telling me that literally NONE of the orange juice people except Shinji (who has been orange juice multiple times and still came back) and Asuka had the will? Especially when Shinji had the will when he barely even wanted to live in the first place? Also, what would even happen if they regained human form? If they're in a sea of LCL then they'd form into one huge mass of solid people if they had the will at the same time as another person did.

I believe the idea was that tang'd people could, if they got their egos together and decided to, become un-tang'd whenever they wanted to. It's just that Shinji and Asuka both got out first, so they're the only ones we saw.
