Jun is still training, and he knows he needs to train more in order to become strong enough for Tomo to recognize him (at least, in his eyes, he wants Tomo to acknowledge how strong he has become and be dependent on him in some sense).

As for actual income, dojo's do earn a pittance from their pupils. Tomo will likely be the bread winner.
