I actually really enjoyed the Soul Society arc, and even prefer it to the early Karakura stuff, which I also really enjoyed, but I think the things that made the Soul Society storyline enjoyable weren't as sustainable as what was good about Karakura, so set off a sort of deterioration in the series

Soul Society arc. It suffered from terrible attempts at humor and useless side characters all the way through, but it advanced well to that point. After that it was clear he had written himself into a corner or had not understood the ramifications of what he had done, so we saw lots of silly things happen like character bloat, all the upper level shinigami suddenly not being guys Ichigo one shotted, and so on. Aizen and Yhwach's mustache were literally the only things entertaining later on, and mostly out of unintentional comedy.
