I love Nadeko. I liked her in Nadeko snake but it wasn't until Medusa and Hitagi end that I felt like her character to was fleshed out enough to love. That being said, she competes with Tsukihi as my absolute favorite. I find Tsukihi to be a little bit more adorable and Tsukihi also has fewer flaws as a character.

She's just sheltered. She lived an easy life of praise and simply skated by on that. Getting cursed and the whole charm thing with Kaiki really shook her up. At that point she latched onto Koyomi more strongly than before because of what he did.

Even before Koyomi helped her, she was fixated on him because he was seemingly uninterested in her altogether, which is something she never experienced until that point.

Her point about it being easier to stay in love with someone, even if it is unrequited hit close to home for me. The tragedy (albeit only a tragedy in her mind) is something I feel like I can identify with, which is probably why I like her so much. Her struggle feels a lot more real than many of the other characters. Or at least, most easy to identify with.

The problem I have with Monogatari though is the subtle harem subplots that show up. I like the fan service, and I don't care that some girls love Araragi, but it makes character interactions more strained when you realize that literally every girl wants to bang vampire boy. It's not like it's a generic harem, but many character motivations boil down to just doing what Araragi wants because they love him. Plus like I said with Tsukihi and Nadeko, they're both super cute together, but it seems like if they got their own screentime it'd be mostly spent discussing Araragi which gets kinda boring.

True. From what I've seen so far though (I haven't finished the second season), Nadeko seems to only really talk to other characters about Araragi. If Araragi is gone like he was at the start of Season 2, then yeah the character who do interact don't end up talking about him that much. I think a story with Nadeko and Tsukihi and maybe Karen has potential, since they all go to the same school and thus have more things to talk about besides Araragi. Nadeko's character has been fleshed out to some extent, though it's still kinda flat, especially since she's been sheltered for so long. I think she deserves some more growth alongside the Fire Sisters where they all do their own thing for a while.

As far as Hitagi and Tsubasa, they are older and have more going on in their lives. Tsubasa also understands relationships better and knows she cant just yank Araragi away from Hitagi by acting a certain way or by doing something.

I dont really get Kaiki's plan. Nadeko knows Araragi can't die from a traffic accident or whatever. Pretty much only Nadeko can kill him at this point so it seems like Kaiki should just leave. Others here said Kaiki becomes a more likeable character at this point but I havent seen his motivations change yet. He still seems like a bit of a selfish dick. Though I cant blame him, money isn't free, and he has no duty to get involved with shit that can kill him.

I hated her at first because her cuteness was creepy to me, and I was relieved to hear them address it in Koi.

But Valkyrie hanakana made me like nadeko again, and Nademonogatari looks promising too now that she seems to have matured a little from the creepy cuteness

Maybe I missed that point. From my point of view, Nadeko became a God partly out of her obsession with Araragi and partly out of her own desire to be something besides just a cute face. Ougi and Shinobu both gave her some shit for just being a cute girl who keeps her head down. This, combined with her feelings for Araragi I think put her down a path to stop being so dependent on others. I think her age plays a large part in this too, as she was kind of at a rebellious age, although when Kaiki investigated he noted that her dad said she never rebelled against him. Where I'm at now, I dont think its accurate to say it has nothing to do with Araragi but at the same time I think she did love him and it took it's toll on her to watch him be with Senjougahara. Her desire to kill Araragi stems from the fact that she has elevated this notion of eternal, unrequited love which she feels now as superior to actual reciprocal love which she knows will never exist between the two. As she said, or believes at least, unrequited love is easier than reciprocal love, because it never changes or requires any additional work put into it. She can kill Araragi and then love him as a dead man, while continuing to turn down any other suitors which is what she had been doing.

As far as Kaiki goes, he only accepted the plan because he thought it would help Kanbaru. I'm not exactly sure why he did, something about that Gaen lady who has been helping Ononoki and Araragi. My view of his motivations were that he could get closer to or help Gaen by doing this job and thus helping Kanbaru. I had no real problem with Kaiki before all this, but I don't see this job as a major turning point in his character, at least not yet. I dont know if it works out yet or whatever though.

You're taking Kaiki way too much at face value. Yes, he justified taking the job by saying it was a way to help Kanbaru, but it was painfully obvious he was looking for an excuse to make to himself. I was looking on wiki to see if it had been animated, and read that at the end of koyomimonogatari March 13, the day where Araragi was supposed to meet with Senjougahara to go to the university, he goes to the Snake Shrine where he meets Gaen. She explains to him how the solution to all the events happening around him would be solved by his death, to which then Gaen proceeds to chop Araragi into small pieces with the original Oddity Killer sword.

I'd like to think Kaiki would appreciate that at least. He seems to be big on appearances above all else. This does explain why he is so devoted to helping Senjougahara even when told and paid by Gaen to stop. I felt like that was really out of character but now it makes more sense. I guess I see him either becoming, or at least showing that he's not the villain of the story, just motivated by very different reasons than the rest ofnthe characters so far. But, like I said, I never really had a problem with him. While he was a bit of an ass before, I never thought he acted with any real intent to cause harm. He did cause harm, though it was more due to carelessness than actually trying to fuck things up.
