Mayu's arc has a good chunk. Urumi attempts suicide. Math teacher has a mental breakdown and snaps. Miyabi's reason for hating teachers makes more sense in the manga. The best arc, the beach trip is still the same though

If you don't like awkward pervert comedy, or stereotypical Japanese girly shit, then GTO is probably not for you.

What it is good for, however, are the morals and how incredibly human it is. Not quite sad, but very real. Onizuka himself is an uncompromising and unorthodox human. He refuses to be corrupt or held down by authority figures which seek to shame him. I see him as a sort of perverted superhero.

If you don't like soap operas, then GTO is not for you. If you want to see a dude teach kids important life lessons in the most unorthodox and possibly illegal ways, as well as see what a character which has the balls to do what's right, no exceptions, then this show is worth the watch.
