Gotta respect Cygames. Privately funding an extremely expensive anime and giving the staff almost complete creative freedon is in itself almost unthinkable in this industry. But even after having presumably lukewarm returns (judging from the low BD sales and the fact that the game seems to be on it's way out), instead of packing up and betting on a more conventional adaptation, they instead laser-locked on the problems (the series structure, which simultaneously made the fun adventure-y episodes too few and the main storyline too rushed) and fixed those (by making it 2 cour and changing the writer, plus letting her write every episode) whithout punishing everybody else who did a great job.
And it's probably costing them even more than before.

I was hoping that because of Favaro seemingly being sidelined in the character lineup, it might indicate that he has interests in getting her back that pits him against the new mc + friends. Kaiser vs Favaro again.

But some of the new stills from concept art or manga shows Favaro without a tail so chances feel even more slim.

Like others have said, when the anime was focusing on prophesies and the end of the world, it was losing most of its charm. I don't want to throw around the buzzword "generic", but it just didn't interest me.
